icspi is building the future of nanoscale imaging.
We’ve revolutionized atomic force microscopy (AFM) by miniaturizing it by a factor of 1,000,000x compared to traditional systems: integrating all the components of an AFM onto a single CMOS chip, which we call microAFM.
Our core tech is field-proven and used by scientists and engineers in over 40 countries.
Now we are using our core tech to solve throughput-resolution gaps in the semiconductor industry: catching nanoscale defects to enable new processes and prolong Moore's Law.
Today, scanning a wafer with AFM would take about 70 years. By using thousands of microAFMs in parallel, we can scan a wafer in a matter of hours.

About the role
The manufacturing engineer will take charge of the manufacturing process for our commercially sold tools, the nGauge and Redux AFMs. Day to day, you'll keep manufacturing moving, own inventory, support customers on mechanical issues, and be the technical connection between our team and our contract manufacturers. You’ll kickstart and lead projects to improve these tools, add features, and customize the system for customer needs.
This role is for someone who wants to dig into the details of an assembly process, find inefficiencies and recurring issues, and generate solutions. The ideal candidate would be comfortable looking at a tool and its assembly process and self-starting on DFM/DFA improvements. The amount of mechanical design work this role entails depends on the experience of the successful candidate.
What you’ll do
- Manage the continuous manufacturing of our nGauge and Redux systems
- Maintain inventory to ensure timely assembly and deliveries to customers
- Lead projects to improve the DFA/DFM and performance of our systems
- Work with our CMs to specify and execute on custom designs for specific customers
- Continuously improve the manufacturing process of our systems
- Identify areas of improvement in our software and coordinate with software engineers to implement features and fixes
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, or a hands-on production, ideally in a low-volume manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working directly with hardware
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles and a track record of applying them
- Excellent organizational habits
Nice to have
- Experience working with contract manufacturers on projects
- Experience owning inventory systems
- Exposure to precision instruments
- Familiarity with code and what it might take to implement software features
- Experience performing root cause analysis and continuous improvement
