Position Objectives and Responsibilities
- Maintain, configure, and ensure the reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualized environments
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and solutions, setting priorities, and assessing the impact of issues
- Provide IT staff with the documentation and technical specifications needed to plan and implement new IT infrastructure or upgrades
- Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate data protection, disaster recovery, and failover processes
- Lead desktop support and help desk activities, ensuring that issues related to applications, workstations, and associated equipment are resolved promptly and with minimal disruption
- Be responsible for database capacity, storage planning, and performance
Required Qualifications for the Systems Administrator Position
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, systems administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
- At least two years of experience in network and systems administration
- Certifications in systems administration and IT, including Linux, Microsoft, or other networking-related areas, are an asset
- Working knowledge of virtualization, Hyper-V, VMWare, or equivalent technology
- Strong knowledge of systems and network software and hardware, as well as network protocols
- Experience with scripting and automation tools
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing IT strategies and plans
- Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing best practices for help desk services and IT operations, including expertise in security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java applications
- Experience with Oracle, MySQL, and SQL databases
- Experience with cloud and web applications
