Senior Business Systems Analyst – Mainframe & API
Location: Toronto or London, ON – Hybrid, 4 days onsite
Duration: 12 months, with potential extension/conversion
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst to join an Agile technology team supporting critical customer data platforms. The team is focused on enabling consumers to onboard to API endpoints used to inquire and maintain customer data, while also supporting ongoing Mainframe/Host initiatives.
You will bridge business and technology teams, translating complex requirements into clear functional specifications and BDD-based user stories. You will work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Engineers, QA teams and business stakeholders throughout design, testing and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze and document functional and non-functional system requirements.
- Translate requirements into detailed JIRA user stories and acceptance criteria using BDD methodology.
- Perform current-state, future-state and gap analysis.
- Support API and Mainframe/Host initiatives from requirements through testing and implementation.
- Maintain requirements traceability across design, development, testing and deployment.
- Partner with QA teams on test scenarios, expected results and defect resolution.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders in a Scaled Agile environment.
Must-Have Skills
- 8+ years of Business Systems Analyst experience.
- Hands-on experience inquiring and maintaining data through Mainframe screens – required.
- Hands-on experience inquiring and maintaining data using APIs/Postman – required.
- Strong experience working within a Scaled Agile framework.
- Strong understanding of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and writing user stories.
- Strong JIRA and Confluence experience.
- Strong testing and gap-analysis experience.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Engineering/technical mindset with the ability to bridge business requirements and technology solutions.
Nice to Have
- Customer data/platform experience.
- Banking or financial-services experience.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot or GitHub Copilot exposure.
- Business Analysis certification.
