JOB DESCRIPTION
Insight Global is looking for an Accountant/Bookkeeper to join our client, a Toronto based merchant bank and family office. Our client is supporting the launch of a new mining company being spun out from an existing portfolio company. The successful hire will initially focus on building the accounting function for this new issuer and, through strong performance and trust, may transition into broader responsibilities within our client’s merchant banking/family office platform. This is an in-person role and requires on site attendance 5x/week. This role suits someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning both routine bookkeeping and broader accounting deliverables. A key part of the fit is humility and willingness to handle full-cycle accounting tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting and bookkeeping for a growing mining issuer
- Manage bank and credit card reconciliations
- Support payroll processes and related remittances
- Prepare and file HST/GST and maintain compliance documentation
- Maintain general ledger and support month-end close activities
- Assist with tracking equity investments and related bookkeeping (public/private investments)
- Support accounting needs related to real estate holdings and investment activity (as applicable)
- Prepare working papers and support tax preparation processes (TaxPrep a plus)
- Build and improve repeatable processes as the company scales - Work closely with leadership (including board/CEO-level stakeholders) in a high-trust environment
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience working at a CPA firm
- Strong foundation in bookkeeping and full-cycle accounting (must be willing to do routine tasks)
- Experience with QuickBooks
- Advanced Excel skills
- High discretion and professionalism with sensitive financial information
- Reliable, accountable, and detail-oriented
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Public accounting background (helpful but not required)
- Exposure to mining or public-company issuers
- Experience with investments/equities bookkeeping
- Familiarity with TaxPrep
- Comfort using AI tools to improve productivity, while still checking and owning your work (no over-reliance)
