We are seeking a Solution Architect for an initial 6-month contract with a likelihood of extension. The role requires a minimum of 3 days per week onsite in Calgary, Alberta. This individual will support a major portfolio of IT initiatives, including large-scale capital projects, translating enterprise architecture, business requirements, and conceptual designs into detailed, practical solution designs that delivery teams and vendors can implement. Working approximately 70% technical / 30% business-facing, the Solution Architect will collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, BRMs, BAs, application specialists, business stakeholders, and delivery teams across functions including major projects, HR, finance, land and regulatory, Indigenous relations, communications, and engineering. This is a delivery-focused role, not a strategic architecture position, requiring someone who can take high-level concepts and make them tangible through solution designs, integration patterns, data flows, diagrams, dependencies, and implementation guidance.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of Solution Architecture or Solution Design experience in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong delivery focus with experience turning high-level architecture and conceptual designs into tangible, implementation-ready solutions for delivery teams.
- Must be hands-on and comfortable staying engaged through implementation, not solely focused on strategy or future-state architecture.
- Broad experience across enterprise applications, SaaS technologies, integrations/APIs, data, security/IAM, and cloud.
- Experience working within a Microsoft/Azure environment.
- Proven ability to create detailed solution diagrams and technical documentation that development teams and vendors can build from.
- Experience designing integrations, including APIs, data flows, systems of record, and application dependencies.
- Technology-agnostic approach with the ability to work across multiple platforms and business functions rather than specializing in one technology.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar business processes quickly and translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Exposure to AI, low-code development, application modernization/rebuilds, and modern integration patterns.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to challenge requirements and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience within energy, pipelines, construction, utilities, infrastructure, or major capital project environments.
- Experience supporting technology portfolios spanning areas such as major projects, land/regulatory, engineering, finance, HR, communications, and Indigenous relations.
- Experience with enterprise platforms such as SAP SuccessFactors, Ivalua, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, ArcGIS, Primavera, or Borealis.
