The Integrated Primary Care Systems Lab is a research lab at the University of Toronto, led by Dr. Monica Aggarwal. We are dedicated to strengthening primary care as an equitable, high-performing, and accountable foundation of the health system.
We generate policy and practice-relevant, applied research that informs real-world primary care reform in Canada and internationally. Our work is anchored in the Aggarwal-Hutchison Framework, an empirically grounded model that defines the structural attributes of high-performing primary care systems.
Our research spans governance and system design, team-based care and workforce reform, patient attachment, digital health and AI, equity-centred planning, and performance measurement and accountability. Using mixed-methods approaches, we work closely with policymakers, clinicians, community organizations, and patient partners to co-design evidence that can be implemented at scale.
We welcome collaboration with researchers, system leaders, clinicians, trainees, and community partners who share a commitment to strengthening primary care systems through actionable evidence and sustained change.
