About the job Waste Management Lead
The Waste Management Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing waste management activities for mining projects and site operations. This position works closely with project teams, site operations, environmental teams, contractors, suppliers, and waste service providers to ensure waste is managed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
Waste Management Coordination
- Lead the implementation and coordination of waste management activities across project and site operations.
- Develop and maintain waste management procedures, plans, schedules, and tracking systems.
- Coordinate the segregation, handling, storage, transportation, recycling, treatment, and disposal of waste streams.
- Ensure appropriate management of general, industrial, hazardous, recyclable, and regulated waste.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste generation, increase recycling, and improve waste management practices.
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure waste management activities comply with applicable legislation, permits, environmental requirements, and site procedures.
- Maintain required waste records, manifests, tracking documentation, and reporting.
- Support environmental inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting related to waste management.
- Identify environmental risks and coordinate corrective actions where required.
- Promote good housekeeping and environmental practices across site operations.
Contractor & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate waste management contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Monitor waste collection, transportation, recycling, treatment, and disposal activities.
- Verify contractor compliance with project requirements and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate waste removal schedules and resolve service, documentation, or disposal issues.
- Maintain records of waste volumes, disposal methods, destinations, and contractor performance.
Site Operations
- Coordinate waste collection points, storage areas, bins, containers, and waste handling requirements.
- Work with construction, operations, maintenance, and logistics teams to ensure appropriate waste management practices are maintained.
- Conduct site inspections and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support the safe handling and storage of hazardous and regulated waste materials.
- Coordinate waste management requirements during construction, commissioning, and operational activities.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Track waste volumes, costs, recycling rates, and disposal activities.
- Prepare regular waste management reports and performance updates.
- Maintain waste registers, action items, and compliance records.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve waste management performance.
- Support the development and implementation of waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
