Role Summary
The Government of Alberta is seeking experienced Senior Solution/Data Architects to provide architectural leadership for large-scale enterprise projects involving data, software applications, system integrations, digital transformation, and modern data-driven services.
The resource will lead cross-functional Agile product teams, establish technical vision and architecture, mentor developers and technical leads, and collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and communicate enterprise solution and data architecture.
- Establish technical vision, architecture patterns, and integration approaches.
- Lead domain modelling and database architecture.
- Guide development teams and mentor developers and technical leads.
- Design scalable solutions spanning applications, data, analytics, and integrations.
- Support modernization of legacy systems toward cloud-native architectures.
- Apply data governance, security, interoperability, and standardization principles.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled capabilities, where appropriate.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, IT/IM policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Provide architectural guidance throughout Agile product delivery and multiple releases.
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years leading cross-functional Agile product teams, providing architectural direction and mentoring developers/technical leads.
- 8+ years as a Data Architect, Software Architect, or Senior Data Engineer working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop new software applications.
- 5+ years leading solution architecture and defining the overall technical vision for large-scale enterprise projects with system integrations.
- 4+ years leading domain modelling and database schema design for transactional and reporting systems.
- 5+ years demonstrating strong communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing decisions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or an accepted equivalent.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- 3+ years aligning data architecture with organizational data strategies, digital service delivery, and emerging AI-enabled business capabilities.
- 3+ years applying data governance, data quality, compliance, metadata management, and responsible data-use principles for analytics and AI.
- 4+ years applying secure development practices, RBAC/ABAC, identity and access management, and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
- 5+ years architecting solutions using relational and non-relational databases, analytics platforms, and AI technologies, including data modelling and performance optimization.
- 2+ years embedding data interoperability and standardization practices into product development.
- 5+ years transforming legacy systems into modern, cloud-native, data-driven services across multiple releases.
- 2+ years working with Government of Alberta IT/IM policies, standards, and guidelines.
- 3+ years working in organizations comparable in size and complexity to GoA on enterprise-scale data, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
