Role Description The Highway Dispatcher is a full-time, on-site role based in Acheson, AB. In this position, the dispatcher coordinates highway transport operations by scheduling loads, assigning drivers and equipment, and monitoring routes to ensure safe, timely deliveries. The role involves communicating with drivers, customers, and internal teams to provide updates, resolve issues, and support compliance with company policies and transportation regulations. The Highway Dispatcher uses dispatch software and other technology to track shipments, manage documentation, and maintain accurate records. This role also contributes to continuous improvement by identifying operational challenges and recommending practical solutions.
Qualifications
- Experience in dispatching or transportation coordination, ideally within highway or truckload operations.
- Strong skills in communication, customer service, and relationship building with drivers and clients.
- Proficiency with dispatch or logistics software, and comfort working with technology and digital documentation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of transportation safety standards and basic regulatory requirements relevant to highway operations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in scheduling, recordkeeping, and problem-solving.
- Willingness to work on-site in Acheson, AB and collaborate within a safety-focused, team-oriented culture.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in logistics, transportation, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous experience in Western Canada trucking or multimodal transportation is considered beneficial.
