We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Senior Project Director to provide executive leadership and overall direction for major projects, programs, and strategic initiatives across the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role will lead project teams, manage senior stakeholders, oversee budgets and resources, and drive successful execution of complex and high-impact projects.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience managing large-scale or complex projects, strong commercial and financial understanding, excellent leadership capabilities, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for major projects and strategic programs.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle from planning, design, development, implementation, execution, and completion.
- Develop comprehensive project strategies, execution plans, timelines, budgets, milestones, and performance targets.
- Ensure projects are delivered according to approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and business objectives.
- Lead and manage project directors, project managers, consultants, contractors, and cross-functional project teams.
- Establish clear project governance structures, responsibilities, reporting frameworks, and decision-making processes.
- Monitor project progress, performance, financial status, risks, issues, dependencies, and critical milestones.
- Oversee project budgets, cost control, resource allocation, procurement, contracts, and financial performance.
- Identify potential project risks and develop effective mitigation, contingency, and recovery strategies.
- Manage project changes, scope adjustments, variations, claims, and commercial issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with senior management, Board members, clients, investors, government authorities, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and strategic partners.
- Lead high-level negotiations and resolve complex commercial, operational, technical, and stakeholder issues.
- Review project reports, financial forecasts, progress updates, risk registers, and performance dashboards.
- Establish and monitor project KPIs and ensure accountability across project teams.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, safety standards, quality standards, and organizational policies.
- Drive continuous improvement, project optimization, cost efficiency, and best-practice implementation.
- Coordinate closely with Finance, Legal, Procurement, Operations, Engineering, Sales, and other departments to ensure effective project execution.
- Lead project recovery strategies for delayed, underperforming, or high-risk projects when required.
- Ensure effective documentation, reporting, knowledge management, and project close-out processes.
- Provide regular executive-level updates, strategic recommendations, and project forecasts to senior management and the Board.
- Identify opportunities for future projects, business expansion, strategic partnerships, and organizational growth.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, safety, quality, and high performance across project teams.
✅ Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Project Director, Project Director, Program Director, Senior Project Manager, or equivalent senior project leadership role.
- Extensive experience managing large-scale, complex, multi-disciplinary, or high-value projects.
- Strong track record of delivering major projects successfully within agreed scope, budget, timeline, and quality requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, risk management, and project controls.
- Strong financial and commercial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and contract management.
- Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and complex stakeholder environments.
- Strong understanding of project risk, procurement, contracts, compliance, quality, and operational requirements.
- Excellent reporting and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex project information to senior executives.
- High level of integrity, accountability, professionalism, and executive presence.
- Proficiency in project management and reporting tools; experience with ERP, PMIS, or project controls systems is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- PMP, PRINCE2, APM, PMI, or other relevant professional certification is an advantage.
- Master’s degree or MBA will be an added advantage.
- Experience in managing major capital projects, infrastructure, construction, technology, transformation, or other complex programs is highly desirable.
