About Kalamoir: A Calgary-based General Contractor & Developer that specializes in a variety of different development projects including residential infill and greenfield developments, low-to-midrise multi-family buildings, commercial and civil/infrastructure projects. Many of our projects are based in Calgary and the surrounding municipalities, but we are continuing to grow our presence in Interior AB & BC.
A strong focus of Kalamoir is our preconstruction services where we are engaged early in the design development of projects so we can optimize value for clients through early budget and schedule preparation that are continually refined and updated leading up to formal tender and construction commencement.
Role Overview: As Civil Estimator, you are responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil construction projects from initial bid to final submission, including project handover and construction start-up overlap. This involves managing the tendering process, reviewing bid documents, coordinating subcontractor pricing, and working closely with project management and field teams to support successful project delivery. This role reports to the VP, Civil Operations
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the preparation of competitive tenders for civil projects.
- Review drawings and specifications to identify opportunities, risks, and smarter ways to build.
- Develop winning bid strategies alongside company leadership.
- Build strong relationships with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Complete detailed quantity take-offs, costing, and pricing.
- Review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Support project managers with seamless turnover from estimation to construction.
- Identify value engineering opportunities that improve both quality and profitability.
Competencies and Skills:
- 5+ years estimating experience in civil construction industry.
- Experience preparing estimates for civil construction including earthworks, utilities and structural concrete.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with attention to detail
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or combination of relevant experience and education.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based, with occasional offsite meetings with our subcontractors and other project stakeholders
