About the job:
Kent is looking for an Junior Accountant to support general ledger accounting, financial close, account reconciliations, reporting, and audit activities. The successful candidate will prepare accurate and well-supported accounting entries and schedules, investigate variances, maintain balance-sheet integrity, and work collaboratively with colleagues across Finance and the business. This role suits an organized, analytical accounting professional who takes ownership of assigned work and is motivated to continue developing technical and commercial capability.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, allocations, reclassifications, and other general ledger transactions with complete supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly balance-sheet and general ledger account reconciliations and investigate reconciling, unusual, or aged items.
• Complete assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities accurately and within the established close schedule.
• Review account activity for completeness, accuracy, appropriate coding, and correct accounting-period recognition.
• Prepare supporting schedules, variance analyses, and account commentary for financial and management reporting.
• Support intercompany accounting, confirmations, settlements, and the investigation of differences between entities.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, legal-entity schedules, statutory reporting, and corporate reporting requirements.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation, responding to routine queries, and following outstanding items through to completion.
• Work with Accounts Payable, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Project Controls, Tax, Treasury, and Operations to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready accounting records in accordance with Company policies and internal-control requirements.
• Assist with fixed-asset accounting, prepaid expenses, bank accounting, payroll-related entries, or other assigned accounting areas.
• Use Oracle and reporting tools to research transactions, validate data, and prepare accurate accounting information.
• Identify process, data-quality, and control issues and recommend practical improvements.
• Maintain current process documentation and participate in cross-training, system testing, and Finance improvement initiatives.
• Escalate material discrepancies, control concerns, and potential reporting risks promptly to the Lead Accountant or Finance leadership.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Progress toward a Chartered Professional Accountant designation or an equivalent professional accounting designation is preferred.
• Relevant accounting experience involving journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting support.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger processes, balance-sheet reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Ability to analyze account activity, investigate discrepancies, and prepare clear supporting documentation.
• Experience supporting internal or external audits would be an asset.
• Experience in a multi-entity, shared-services, engineering, energy, construction, professional-services, or project-based environment would be an asset.
• Experience with Oracle ERP or another enterprise financial system is preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard Microsoft Office applications.
Communication:
• Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication.
• Ability to communicate accounting information and outstanding requirements clearly to Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and functions.
• Ability to ask appropriate questions, seek clarification, and escalate issues in a timely and professional manner.
