About the team
The AI Innovation team builds Kinaxis operational orchestration: intelligence embedded in how an enterprise runs. It continuously senses what is changing, interprets what it means, decides what to do, and acts on it. Our focus is agents that reason about the problems an enterprise faces, decompose them, and orchestrate the models, tools, and deterministic engines that solve them.
Data and capable models are the starting point. The frontier is connecting signals to business context, decisions, and action, and that is where this team works. We sit at the intersection of applied research, product innovation, and customer impact, taking methods that are still being invented and engineering them into capabilities we test and deploy directly with customers.
Enterprise Agents are a new category of software, and building the platform they run on is a new kind ofengineering problem. We are building that platform now - the runtime that hosts agents, the surface that developers and AI coding agents build against, and the first features where the product genuinely reasons rather than calculates. Much of it does not have an established shape yet, which is what makes it interesting work.
Location
You must be in the Ottawa, Canada office at least three days a week.
Term Duration
This is a full-time, 8, or 12-month position, starting January, 2027.
Co-op / Intern Eligibility
This position is open to co-ops and interns. To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled in full-time education or be a recent/upcoming graduate within 12 months of the placement end date.
Compensation range
$27.04 - $39.66hourly rate. The final offer within this range will reflect the candidate’s skills, year of education, and experience.

What you will do
- As a Co-op/Intern on the AI Innovation team you will be treated like a full-time developer and get to work on everything from design to production code on our agentic AI platform
- You will be working with a mentor from whom you can learn and who will provide support and guidance
- You will build new capabilities into the platform, including the tools that AI agents use to get work done
- You will help figure out how our agents behave in the real world - what works, what breaks, and what to do about it
- Your projects may include new product ideas, working prototypes, and demos to the team andto executives
- You will have access to the training that you need and start to make an impact within a few weeks of joining the team
- Projects and scope of the work you will do could change depending on the state of the codebase at the time of your start
- The codebase is in it’s early stages, and development moves fast. Your project will be scoped to where it is on your first day, in conversation with you, rather than assigned from a spec written months earlier.
- Working within the new codebase gives you the opportunity to make decisions and impacts that are visible long after your term ends.
- Day-to-day you will work with a team of experienced software engineers using modern tools and processes across platform engineering, applied AI, and product development.
- Work in a GitHub-native, agentic engineering workflow, using AI-assisted development tools as part of your day-to-day toolkit.
- Write your decisions down. Significant technical choices on this team get recorded and argued about in writing, and you will be expected to do the same for yours.
- Share what you build. We expect you to demo your work to the team and to have opinions about it.
What we are looking for
- Completed 3rd year of or recently graduated from, a program in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in building and shipping software - through coursework, a previous work term, a personal project, research, or open-source contributions. We care much more about things you have finished than about the stack you finished them in.
- Demonstrated interest in AI agents and how they are built. This might look like experimenting with LLM APIs, building something with an agent framework, writing your own tools for an agent to call, or simply being able to talk in depth about why these systems are hard to build well.
- Comfortable writing code in Python or a comparable language, and comfortable in Git and GitHub.
- Clear written communication. On this platform, a feature is only as useful as the next person’s ability to understand what you built, why you built it that way, and how to extend it.
- Comfortable with ambiguity. Many of these problems do not have an established right answer yet, and you will help define the approach rather than follow a specification.
Nice to have
- Experience building or consuming APIs, and an eye for what makes an interface pleasant to use - naming, error handling, and the shape of a good response.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, containers, or distributed services, and a general sense of how code gets from a laptop to something running for real users.
- Exposure to authentication and identity concepts such as OAuth or OIDC, or any experience in the realm of access control and governance in a multi-user system.
- Familiarity with agentic-driven development, including working with specific AI-powered coding tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, or GitHub CoPilot
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, feature flags, or progressive delivery.
- Exposure to LLM applications, RAG, prompt engineering, or agentic frameworks and the tooling around them.
- Experience with logs, traces, or metrics - anything where you had to figure out what a running system was actually doing.
- Front-end, CLI, or developer-tooling experience: any work where the quality of the experience for the person (or agent) using your thing was the point.
- Exposure to knowledge graphs, semantic modeling, or ontologies.
- Any exposure to supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, or enterprise planning systems.
- Contributions to open-source projects, research, competitions, or hackathons.
