The role
The Business Development Executive is responsible for bringing new clients to Kipling Media. You will find and qualify prospects across Canada, run the sales process from first contact to signed agreement, and hand new accounts to the delivery team.
You will work closely with the Account Lead / Sales Manager, who you report to, and with our strategy, design, development and content teams when scoping proposals.

Responsibilities
Prospecting and lead generation
- Identify and research target businesses in our core sectors and in new markets across Canada
- Run outbound outreach by email, phone and LinkedIn, and follow up on inbound enquiries
- Represent Kipling Media at industry events, trade shows and networking functions
- Build referral relationships with complementary businesses and partners
Sales process
- Hold discovery calls and meetings to understand a prospect's goals, current marketing and budget
- Work with the delivery team to scope projects and retainers across web, SEO, paid media, email, social and content
- Prepare and present proposals, estimates and pitch materials
- Negotiate terms and close agreements
Pipeline and reporting
- Keep the CRM accurate and up to date, including contacts, opportunities, stages and next steps
- Report weekly on pipeline, activity and revenue against targets
- Track win and loss reasons and share what you hear from the market with the team
Client handoff and growth
- Hand new clients to account management with a clear brief on scope, expectations and contacts
- Identify opportunities to add services for existing clients, working with the account team
Qualifications
- 3+ years in business development or B2B sales, ideally selling agency, marketing or professional services
- A track record of meeting or exceeding new business targets
- Working knowledge of digital marketing services, including websites, SEO, paid media, email and social, enough to hold an informed first conversation and know when to bring in a specialist
- Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to write proposals and outreach that are accurate and to the point
- Experience managing a pipeline in a CRM
- Comfortable working independently, organizing your own week and following through on commitments
- Eligible to work in Canada
Nice to have
- Existing relationships with businesses in consumer packaged goods, health and wellness, e-commerce, retail or non-profit sectors
- Experience selling outside your home province, or to clients across Canada
- Familiarity with CRM and sales tools such as HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho or LinkedIn Sales Navigator
- An understanding of Canadian advertising rules, such as the Competition Act and Health Canada claim requirements for natural health products
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in business, marketing, communications or a related field
Compensation and details
- Base salary: $45,000 to $65,000 per year
- Commission: Competitive Commissions e.g. a percentage of first-year revenue on new accounts
- Benefits: Health and Dental, 2 Weeks paid Vacation after one year
- Hours: standard hours and any evening or event work
