Job Description
Kusiar Project Services Inc., a trusted leader in Contract Administration and Site Inspection services across Ontario, is currently seeking a qualified Construction Inspector to support municipal infrastructure construction projects in the Greater Toronto Area. This position requires practical, hands-on field experience inspecting concrete box culvert construction. We will consider candidates with approximately 3 to 4 years of construction inspection experience if they can demonstrate direct experience on multiple concrete box culvert projects. We will give greater consideration to relevant culvert inspection experience than to job title or overall years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive daily on-site inspections to ensure work is completed in accordance with contract specifications, approved drawings, OPSS/OPSD standards, and applicable safety requirements.
- Perform detailed inspection of concrete box culvert construction, including excavation, foundation and subgrade preparation, bedding, drainage, formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, backfilling, and compaction.
- Inspect reinforcing steel installation for bar size, spacing, cover, laps, dowels, embeds, and conformance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Verify formwork, dimensions, line, grade, elevations, openings, and overall readiness prior to concrete placement.
- Monitor concrete placement activities, including delivery, placement, consolidation, finishing, curing, protection, and associated quality control testing.
- Verify culvert dimensions, elevations, alignment, and construction details at key stages of the work.
- Monitor backfilling and compaction around culvert structures and associated drainage works.
- Verify materials and workmanship and report any deviations from contract documents or approved drawings.
- Generate and submit detailed daily and weekly inspection reports.
- Maintain Construction and Maintenance Daily Logs as part of internal QA/QC processes.
- Maintain accurate field notes, measurements, quantity records, and daily digital photographs of construction activities.
- Coordinate effectively with Contractors, Consultants, Owners, Testing Agencies, and other project stakeholders.
- Provide field-based input related to RFIs, shop drawings, field changes, and constructability issues.
- Monitor and document deficiencies and confirm completion of corrective work.
- Confirm quantities for payment and provide supporting documentation for progress payments, extras, and changes.
- Participate in construction progress meetings and provide updates regarding site progress, quality, deficiencies, and outstanding issues.
- Inspect associated municipal infrastructure works as required, including grading, drainage, granular materials, concrete works, utilities, roadway restoration, and related construction activities.
- Monitor work around existing overhead and underground utilities in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
- Monitor erosion and sediment control measures and other environmental requirements applicable to the work.
- Work extended hours, evenings, nights, weekends, or overtime when required by construction activities.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 3 to 4 plus years of construction inspection experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated inspection experience on multiple concrete box culvert construction projects is required.
- Strong practical experience inspecting concrete box culvert construction activities, including excavation, foundation preparation, bedding, drainage, reinforcing steel, formwork, concrete placement, backfilling, and compaction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, structural details, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong working knowledge of OPSS and OPSD standards and municipal construction requirements.
- Experience preparing daily inspection reports, field records, quantity measurements, deficiency documentation, and photographic records.
- Experience working on active municipal infrastructure construction sites and coordinating with Contractors, Consultants, Owners, and Testing Agencies.
- Strong field judgment with the ability to identify construction issues and communicate them clearly to the project team.
- Registered or eligible with OACETT as C.Tech, C.E.T., RCSI, or Municipal Infrastructure Inspector (MII), or with PEO as an E.I.T., is considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital field reporting tools.
- Valid Ontario G class driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Certifications in First Aid, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, and other applicable construction safety training are considered assets. Training can be arranged if required.
