Role Description
The Special Event Security role is a CASUAL, on-site position based in Calgary, AB, supporting a range of events such as concerts, festivals, corporate functions, and private gatherings. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring event areas, managing access control to restricted zones, and ensuring the safety and comfort of guests, staff, and performers. The role involves providing clear directions and assistance to attendees, responding calmly and professionally to incidents or emergencies, and coordinating with event organizers and other security team members to maintain a secure and welcoming environment. Team members are expected to maintain a polished, professional presence, follow briefing instructions and event protocols, and complete any required reports or documentation related to security activities. The position may include varying shifts and requires flexibility to adapt to different venues, crowds, and client expectations.
Qualifications
- Must have valid ProTect and ProServe, as mandated by the Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC).
- Event Planning and Event Management skills to understand event flows, anticipate crowd movement, and support organizers in maintaining orderly operations.
- Customer Service and Communication skills to interact respectfully with guests, clients, and colleagues, de-escalate conflicts, and provide clear information and guidance.
- Sales and client-facing experience to represent the company professionally, support positive client relationships, and contribute to a high-quality guest experience.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and follow safety and emergency procedures in dynamic, high-volume environments.
- Strong observational skills, situational awareness, and attention to detail to identify potential risks and respond promptly to issues.
- Professional demeanor, reliability, and punctuality, with the capacity to work variable hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
- Physical ability to stand or move for extended periods and, where required, assist with crowd control and secure restricted areas.
- Previous security, event, or hospitality experience is an asset; relevant certifications or licenses (e.g., provincial security license, first aid/CPR) are beneficial.
