Position Overview
Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance Manager is responsible for leading, managing, planning, and overseeing the financial and accounting functions of Larga Baffin. The Finance Manager provides financial leadership and ensures effective financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance, and sound financial practices across the organization.
Key responsibilities include coordinating and preparing for financial audits, overseeing financial reporting systems, evaluating and improving existing processes, and developing and implementing effective financial policies, procedures, and controls within the Finance and Accounting departments.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines accounting management, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, payroll oversight, compliance, financial analysis, and internal controls. The Finance Manager works collaboratively with all departments and partners closely with Human Resources to support organizational operations, planning, and decision-making.

They are excellent communicators who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven, with a strong sense of accountability, intellectual curiosity, and a low-ego approach to leadership. They are comfortable working hands-on while also providing strategic financial guidance to the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Finance
- Own full-cycle accounting and month-end close for Larga Baffin, ensuring an accurate and timely close each period.
- Review the work prepared by the Accounts Receivable team and maintain high standards for AP, AR, reconciliations, and bookkeeping across the organization.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting frameworks.
- Review and assist with departmental budgeting preparation for the next fiscal year to be submitted to the President and General Manager.
- Manage accounting, reconciliations, and cost allocations across multiple departments.
- Oversee compliance, corporate tax, multi-province HST/GST/QST, and payroll remittances, and lead year-end review activities with our external accounting firm.
- Calculate monthly HST remittance, file monthly HST remittance, and pay monthly HST remittance.
- Support budgeting, cash-flow monitoring, variance analysis, and KPI reporting.
- Review all receipts and invoices entered in Sage Intacct Accounting and review budgeting.
- Manage accounts receivable for recording monthly GN prepayment, monthly occupancy report, record other ad-hoc invoices, record payment of invoices/deposits, and follow-up with vendors on outstanding amounts.
- Manage RBC banking for entering bill payments in RBC Express, enter wire payments in RBC express, enter account transfers in RBC express, upload EFT files for payment, print vendor cheques, and reconcile bank accounts monthly.
- Record monthly prepaid expenses and monthly amortization.
Payroll
- Oversee full cycle bi-weekly payroll in Payworks by ensuring all employee timesheets entered correctly from the Payroll and Finance Coordinator.
- Review the pay register in Payworks prior to submitting bi-weekly payroll to ensure there are no discrepancies in employees paystubs.
- Manage the reconciliation and WSIB reports monthly, Union Dues reports monthly, record payroll in Sage Intacct Accounting by journal entry, process annual T4s in Payworks, reconcile annual WSIB, and annual Ontario EHT.
Management
- Provides direction and leadership to the Finance employees team.
- Prepares department schedules to meet the needs of Larga Baffin.
- Conducts ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of performance management programs and activities for all direct reports.
- Consult with Human Resources of any staff issues or concerns i.e. absenteeism, lateness, poor performance, scheduling conflicts etc.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Hospitality and or related field.
- CPA designation is an asset.
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably including Inuit or Hospitality industry experience.
- Prior experience managing accounting staff.
- Payroll oversight experience.
- Proven leadership with a hands-on approach.
- Excellent people skills, strong work ethic and ability to deliver accurate work efficiently and in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Inuit culture and values is considered an asset.
- Ability to supervise employees by maintaining accountability among staff, coordinating work assignments, and motivating and training staff to confidently perform their roles.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and working under pressure.
- Strong training, coaching and mentoring skills are essential.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with other members of the management team, external providers, and clients.
- Strong organization/decision-making skills and an aptitude for problem solving.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal and communication skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Working knowledge and/or experience with a Payworks and Sage Intacct Accounting systems would be considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Beneficiary status with the ability to speak Inuktitut would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience working in a medical or care facility would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience working in an Inuit organization would be considered an asset.
