Role Description The Intermediate Electrical Designer is a full-time, hybrid role based in the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area, with flexibility for some work from home. This role involves developing electrical design packages, including drawings, schematics, and layouts for power distribution and related systems in industrial and commercial projects. The designer collaborates with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to refine design concepts, ensure code compliance, and support project execution from concept through construction. Daily responsibilities include performing electrical calculations, preparing construction documents, updating design revisions, and coordinating with vendors and contractors on technical details. The role also includes reviewing field information, contributing to design standards and templates, and supporting quality assurance processes to meet client and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Electrical Design, including preparing detailed drawings, schematics, and layouts for industrial and commercial facilities.
- Candidates should possess solid knowledge of Electricity and Electrical Engineering principles, including applicable codes, standards, and safety practices.
- Candidates should possess experience with Power Distribution design, including low and medium-voltage systems, panel schedules, and equipment specifications.
- Candidates should possess an understanding of Power Systems, including load flow, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and system reliability considerations.
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD tools) and familiarity with industry standards such as the Canadian Electrical Code.
- 2–5 years of experience in electrical design within consulting, EPC, or industrial environments, preferably in Canadian projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple assignments.
