About the Opportunity
The Law Society is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Director, Registration & Licensee Services to join our team in a hybrid work environment, in Vancouver, B.C.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer/Senior Director, Trust Regulation, this role leads the Registration & Licensee Services (RLS) department of 14 staff and is accountable for the overall administration of the Law Society's licensing, regulatory, and service operations for over 18,000 lawyers, 700 articled students, and 3,000 law firms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the RLS department, including project and resource planning, priority setting, budget oversight, and policy and process development
- Hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, and managing the performance of department staff
- Leading and managing teams responsible for registration and licensure, setting performance targets and taking corrective action as needed
- Communicating updates and expertise internally and externally, including presenting to the Benchers and liaising with partners
- Overseeing registration and licensure data tracking, ensuring data integrity and quality
- Collaborating with other departments to establish consistent interdepartmental policies and procedures
- Ensuring all RLS processes operate efficiently and in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Leading the implementation of new policy initiatives, including requirements gathering, business process development, impact analysis, and change management
- Working with IT to identify system solutions and support the design and testing of new or enhanced functionality
- Collecting and analyzing data and trends for regular performance reporting
- Undertaking other duties as required by the Chief Financial Officer/Senior Director, Trust Regulation
About You
To qualify, you will need a bachelor's degree in business or operations management (or equivalent), supplemented by training in operations management, project management, and business process improvement. A minimum of 10 years of experience in licensing and/or professional regulatory management, ideally including significant volumes of business activity and continuous process improvement, will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience working with databases
- Ability to design business processes and systems
- Comfort liaising with IT on technical projects
