Law Society of Ontario

Created by an act of the Legislative Assembly in 1797, the Law Society of Ontario regulates Ontario’s lawyers and paralegals in the public interest by ensuring that the people of Ontario are served by lawyers and paralegals who meet high standards of learning, competence and professional conduct.

The Law Society has a duty to protect the public interest, to maintain and advance the cause of justice and the rule of law, to facilitate access to justice for the people of Ontario, and to act in a timely, open and efficient manner.

The Law Society regulates, licenses and disciplines Ontario’s more than 61,000 lawyers and over 11,000 licensed paralegals pursuant to the Law Society Act and the Law Society's rules, regulations and guidelines.

Créé par une loi de l’Assemblée législative en 1797, le Barreau de l’Ontario a pour mission de règlementer les avocats et les parajuristes dans l’intérêt public en veillant à ce que les professionnels du droit qui sont au service de la population de l’Ontario répondent à des normes élevées en matière de formation, de compétence et de déontologie.

Le Barreau a pour mandat de protéger l’intérêt public, de maintenir et de faire avancer la cause de la justice et la primauté du droit, de faciliter l’accès à la justice pour la population ontarienne et d’agir de façon opportune, ouverte et efficiente.

Le Barreau règlemente, autorise et discipline les quelque 61 000 avocats et 11 000 parajuristes autorisés en vertu de la Loi sur le Barreau et de ses règlements, lignes directrices et Code de déontologie.
