PARKSIDE GROUND MAINTENANCE
Sidewalk Technician
Snow & Ice Control • Seasonal / On-Call
Calgary, AB & surrounding area | Starting at $21.00/hour | Seasonal snow & ice position
About Parkside Ground Maintenance
Parkside Ground Maintenance is a Calgary-based commercial grounds and snow services company specializing in exterior maintenance for condo corporations, HOAs, and multi-family communities across Calgary and the surrounding area. We're built on consistent service, clearly defined scopes, and professional follow-through - crews that show up when expected and keep properties clean, safe, and well-managed through every season. Our work spans ground maintenance, snow removal and ice control, landscape enhancements, and site exterior services.
Position Summary
We're looking for hardworking, reliable Sidewalk Technicians to join our snow and ice team. In this role, you'll keep sidewalks, entrances, walkways, and common areas safe and accessible at the condo and multi-family properties we service across Calgary. This is an on-call, seasonal position that responds to snow and ice events as they happen, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
No snow experience? No problem - we'll train the right person. What matters most is dependability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to work in Alberta winter conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Clear snow from sidewalks, entrances, walkways, stairs, and parking areas using shovels, snow blowers, and walk-behind power brooms
- Apply salt and de-icing materials to prevent ice buildup and keep walkways safe
- Respond to snow and ice events as they occur - early mornings, late nights, and weekends (this is an on-call, 24/7 position through the winter season)
- Stay current with weather forecasts and be ready to mobilize on short notice
- Follow site-specific service scopes and document work as required
What We're Looking For
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence (required)
- Reliable transportation to get to work each shift
- Willingness to work long days, early mornings, and a variable schedule based on client needs
- Comfortable working outdoors in cold and winter conditions
- Dependable, punctual, and safety-minded
- Able to work as part of a crew and take direction
Assets - Nice to Have
- Previous snow removal experience (an asset, not a requirement - we'll train the right person)
- Experience operating snow blowers or walk-behind power brooms
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding, outdoor role. You should be able to:
- Regularly lift and manipulate loads of at least 44 lbs (20 kg)
- Stand, walk, bend, shovel, and stay on your feet for extended periods
- Work outdoors in cold, snow, and variable weather
Compensation & Schedule
- Starting wage: $21.00 per hour
- Guaranteed minimum 70 hours per month during the winter season
- On-call, 24 hours / 7 days per week through winter - shifts are driven by snow and ice events
- Shift days and times vary with weather and client needs; long days and early mornings should be expected
