About the Role
The Office of Pete Guthrie, MLA, is seeking an experienced, highly organized and politically astute Executive Assistant to provide senior-level administrative, research, communications and public relations support from the MLA's Edmonton Legislature office.
This is an important position requiring a high degree of professionalism, discretion, initiative and sound judgment. The successful candidate will work closely with the MLA and staff to support the effective and efficient operation of the MLA's legislative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
The Executive Assistant will be responsible for a broad range of duties, including:
- Providing comprehensive administrative and executive support to the MLA.
- Conducting research, analysis and preparation of briefing materials on government, legislative and policy issues.
- Preparing correspondence, briefing notes, speaking points, reports and other materials.
- Supporting the MLA's information, communications and public relations functions.
- Preparing the MLA for meetings, question periods, events, interviews and other engagements.
- Coordinating meetings, appointments, schedules and legislative commitments.
- Assisting with the preparation and coordination of meetings, events and public engagements.
- Liaising professionally with government departments, elected officials, political staff, stakeholders and other organizations.
- Managing confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of discretion.
- Assisting with special projects and taking initiative to ensure priorities are addressed.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma.
- 2 years of previous Government of Alberta or government-related experience is required.
- Strong research, writing, editing and information-gathering skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with senior officials, elected representatives or public-facing organizations is considered an asset.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with standard office software.
- The ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.
- A strong understanding of Alberta government, legislative and political processes is considered a significant asset.

This role requires an individual who can work independently, anticipate priorities, solve problems and remain composed in a fast-paced political environment. The ability to understand the political and public nature of an MLA's office and represent the MLA professionally is essential.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with regular business hours. Some evening and weekend work will be required to accommodate legislative schedules, meetings, events and other MLA responsibilities.
Flexibility in working hours and the ability to adapt to changing schedules is an important requirement of the position.
