Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an
Industrial Engineering Intern to join the
Electrical Infrastructure division in
Mississauga, ON.
The Industrial Engineering Intern will support the development and implementation of key industrialization initiatives at Power Busway. This role will assist with process mapping, time studies, production data analysis, routing development, and standard work documentation to help improve operational efficiency and support future growth. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, and Continuous Improvement teams, the intern will gain hands-on experience in manufacturing processes, capacity planning and Lean Manufacturing.
Responsibilities
What Will You Do?
- Create and maintain process maps for manufacturing processes across product families.
- Conduct shop floor observations and time studies to establish standard cycle times and labor standards.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and standardized work for manufacturing operations.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and process improvement opportunities.
- Assist in developing and maintaining factory floor layouts, workstation designs, and material flow diagrams.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
- Support the development of production performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools.
- Assist with capacity analysis, line balancing, and staffing studies to support operational planning and efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
Education
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar areas
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar areas
- Previous internships, co-op, or project experience in a manufacturing or production environment are preferred. Hands-on experience applying Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles, specifically conducting time studies, process analysis, and workflow improvement initiatives, is beneficial.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with production employees, supervisors, and engineering teams.
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze large sets of production and operational data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
- Understanding of Industrial Engineering principles, including time studies, process mapping, labor standards, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and data visualization tools such as Odoo and Power BI.
