Qualifications
Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Social Service or SCC/RAC or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
Other Requirements
- Experience working with students with socio-emotional and/or behavioral challenges in a school setting
- Knowledge and training in TIPPS and Zones of regulation, response to anxiety, maladaptive coping, school avoidance and collaborative skill development.
- BMS training is an asset
- Experience working in and contributing to a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop quality relationships with students, staff, and families
- Acts as an in-school resource for students with socio/emotional/behavioral and adjustment needs
- Bilingualism (English and French) is required
- Demonstrated knowledge of attachment and systems theory and child/youth development as well as family engagement
- Experience working with diverse populations in an elementary school setting would be an asset
- Effective communicator and collaborator in creation of support plans made for children with adjustment, regulation and skill development needs
- Available to work some evenings
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development offered by the FSSTT and LBPSB
- Experience and knowledge working with and supporting families of students with social and behavioral/emotional difficulties
- Previous experience working in a treatment milieu and/or background in social work or counseling
- Ability to set clear student & family boundaries and knowledge of when to involve administration and FSSTT support is be an asset
Nature Of The Work
The principle and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in applying social aid techniques designed to promote prevention and provide individual or collective assistance to students experiencing related psycho/social/behavioral needs. The incumbent helps a student who requires assistance with other problems of a personal, family, social or other nature that could affect their behavior or overall student functioning.
Daily Tasks/Dossiers
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, the incumbent acts under the direction of the School Principal and multi-disciplinary team of the F.S.S.T.T.
- Acts as an in-school resource for students with socio/emotional/behavioral needs working in conjunction with school staff and resource teams to assess needs, support skill development and promote healthy regulation.
- Provides direct communication and support to families in need and acts as a liaison between family and school as needed.
- Participates in training on understanding and managing the various psyco/social & emotional supports necessary to promote student success
- Develops close relationships with students, families and community to help facilitate interventions to support their social and emotional growth
- Attends regular FSSTT support meetings (family engagement, mentoring, POD meetings)
- Identifies and leads groups for selected students (transition to HS, healthy relationships, skill building, grief support, parenting groups) as well as makes links to community groups or other external organizations
