Peer Education (P2P) Coordinator
LetsStopAIDS is a Canadian Youth-HIV charity focusing on HIV prevention and knowledge exchange by engaging young people and fostering leadership. Since 2004, we have created a global network of youth HIV leaders.
LetsStopAIDS has an exciting opportunity for a community-oriented Peer Education (P2P) Coordinator to lead our P2P program. Under the guidance of the National Manager, the P2P Coordinator will work closely with staff and volunteers to plan, organize, and execute our year-round workshop program. The program delivers gamified HIV health promotion workshops across the GTA and Canada while empowering youth to be leaders in their own communities. Workshops are delivered frequently throughout the year in locations like TDSB schools, community organizations, universities and colleges, corporate partner offices, and even online.
About You
As our Peer Education Coordinator, you are passionate about working with young people and communities. You have a passion for public speaking and teaching about sexual health, harm reduction, and healthy relationships. You are engaging, friendly, non-judgemental, and open. You will lead LetsStopAIDS strategic direction for our Peer Education programme, Peer to Peer (P2P). This requires overseeing the development, delivery, and evaluation of our activities. Your project, time, and relationship management skills will be vital to building trust with youth and the broader HIV community. You have strong administration and virtual communication skills.
Responsibilities & Skills
- Plan, develop, and implement a strategy to progress the P2P program, following LetsStopAIDS mission and values. This includes creating KPIs, annual project plans, and more.
- Oversee junior P2P team members, including junior staff, co-op students or interns, and volunteers.
- Represent the organization and project, coordinate partner and community relationships, including maintaining a dialogue on project progression with all stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of communication strategies, including but not limited to an annual communication plan, content development for communications materials, website, and social media.
- Lead as the primary facilitator for LetsStopAIDS workshops and train other team members as facilitators.
- Lead the outreach, scheduling, and all administration for workshops
- Collaborate with staff, co-op students, and volunteers on preparation of workshop presentations and delivering workshops in person and virtually. Coordinate the development of new workshop material and other educational materials
- Supply health promotion information and health promotion materials to youth related to HIV, including but not limited to HIV basics, sexual health, harm reduction, mental health, and healthy relationships. Encourage and prepare youth as leaders.
- Facilitate data collection and completion of participant questionnaires, and analyze information for quarterly reports.
- Host regular P2P volunteer team meetings once per week and keep up to date with relevant HIV knowledge and information.
- Support the coordination of global/regional level meetings, community activities, conferences and/or other relevant fora for the purposes of advancing project objectives and ensuring stakeholder participation and education.
- Contribute to grant writing for the P2P program.
- The Peer Education (P2P) Coordinator will work in person based out of LetsStopAIDS’ Toronto office with regular local travel to secondary locations such as schools, community organizations, and corporate settings to deliver workshops.
- Regular hours will be 10 am to 6:30 pm Monday to Friday, with occasional altered hours to accommodate workshop bookings and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Passionate about HIV, sexual health, and harm reduction. Driven to create new methods to better engage with other youth.Strong communication skills
- Proven track record in community and leadership development. Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Strong email communication skills.
- Proficient in Google Suite or Microsoft Office (LetsStopAIDS uses Google Suite).
- Leadership experience.
- Experience working with young people is required
- Proven track record of collaboration with community organizations. Have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), or be willing to apply for one.
- A second language is an asset, though not required.
- Have a valid work permit and the ability to work in Canada for the next 12 months.
As LetsStopAIDS is a youth-driven organization and the P2P program is peer-based, recent experience working with youth is a priority. Lived experience relating to HIV is also a priority.
Details:
Type of Contract: Full-time, 1-year, renewable
Compensation: 50,000 CAD/annual
Benefits: After a three-month probation period, eligible for medical and dental benefits.
Vacation: Two weeks of vacation per annum
