Role Purpose
The Sr Analyst, Supply Chain Automation Optimization & Controls supports the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of automated systems across Loblaw Supply Chain.
This role works with Operations, Engineering, Technology, and automation partners to troubleshoot issues, analyze system performance, and support improvements to automation systems.
The position will develop knowledge across PLC controls, automation equipment, system flow, and performance optimization while building strong technical and problem-solving skills. Allowing Loblaw to understand, challenge, design and optimize its automation solutions.
Key Accountabilities
- PLC, Controls & Automation Support
- Review and understand PLC logic, alarms, controls architecture and equipment behaviour.
- Support troubleshooting of automation downtime and recurring issues.
- Assist with root-cause analysis of equipment and system problems.
- Work with internal teams and automation vendors to support system improvements.
- Support testing and implementation of controls changes.
- Maintain technical documentation and system information.
- Automation Performance & Optimization
- Monitor automation performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze throughput, downtime, bottlenecks, equipment utilization, and system performance.
- Support improvements to material flow, sequencing, routing, and system capacity.
- Use operational and system data to help identify trends and recurring issues.
- Track results to confirm improvements are delivering expected benefits.
- Automation Projects & Enhancements
- Support the development of requirements for automation improvements.
- Assist with testing, commissioning, and implementation of system changes.
- Work with automation vendors, Engineering, Operations, and Technology teams during project delivery.
- Support technical assessments, pilots, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Document lessons learned and improvements for future projects.
- Technical Learning & Capability Building
- Develop knowledge of Loblaw's automated systems, controls, and equipment.
- Build familiarity with PLCs, automation software, material-handling systems, and system interfaces.
- Support development of internal technical documentation and troubleshooting guides.
- Stay current on automation technologies and industry practices.
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- Approximately 2 years of experience in automation, controls, engineering, or a related environment.
- Basic understanding of PLCs, control systems, automated equipment, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with data to identify issues and improvement opportunities.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
- Curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to build technical expertise.
- Exposure to automated distribution, manufacturing, material handling, or automation software systems is an asset.
- Experience with data-analysis tools is an asset.
