Operations Manager – Terminal Operations
Location: Winnipeg/Rosser, Manitoba
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Work Arrangement: Fully On-Site
Compensation: Approximately $80,000 base + bonus
Reports To: Terminal Manager
About the Role
We are seeking an Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day terminal operations with our client at their Winnipeg/Rosser facility. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of freight through the terminal while leading a team of approximately 15 operational/terminal employees and 3–4 dispatchers.
The ideal candidate will have experience in asset-based LTL, transportation, freight, terminal, hub, or cross-dock operations, with a strong understanding of both dock/terminal activities and transportation operations. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on people, productivity, service levels, safety, and operating performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily terminal and transportation operations, including inbound and outbound freight movement.
- Lead and support approximately 15 operational/terminal employees and 3–4 dispatchers.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, workload allocation, attendance, productivity, and employee performance.
- Partner closely with dispatch to coordinate drivers, equipment, pickups, deliveries, and freight flow.
- Oversee dock and cross-dock operations, ensuring freight is processed and moved efficiently.
- Monitor operational KPIs including productivity, service levels, equipment utilization, on-time performance, and operational costs.
- Provide coaching, direction, and accountability to front-line employees.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and health and safety requirements.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and service.
- Work closely with the Terminal Manager to address staffing, customer service, operational, and performance issues.
- Monitor operating expenses and contribute to financial performance and profitability.
- Maintain accurate operational reporting and communicate performance trends and issues to leadership.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of terminal and operational employees.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in transportation, terminal, LTL, freight, logistics, distribution, or related operations.
- Experience managing front-line operational employees, preferably including dock/terminal employees and/or drivers.
- Experience working with or managing dispatch operations.
- Strong understanding of freight movement, terminal operations, cross-docking, and transportation workflows.
- Experience in an asset-based LTL environment is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage productivity, service levels, safety, staffing, and operational costs.
- Strong leadership and employee-accountability skills.
- Experience managing operational KPIs and using data to improve performance.
- P&L, budget, or direct cost-management experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work fully on-site in Winnipeg/Rosser, Manitoba.
