THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Junior Accountant will support LUS Brands' day-to-day accounting operations, with an immediate focus on accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end close, financial recordkeeping and reporting. As LUS expands into retail, the role will grow to include accounts receivable responsibilities. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Mississauga, Monday to Thursday.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Support day-to-day accounting operations, with accounts payable as a key focus; review, verify, code and enter vendor invoices and corporate credit card transactions, ensuring appropriate approvals and supporting documentation.
- Prepare scheduled payment runs and process approved payments by cheque, electronic transfer or wire; maintain vendor records, support vendor onboarding, reconcile statements and respond to payment inquiries.
- Record accurate financial transactions, review general ledger accounts, prepare bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies or unmatched transactions.
- Support month-end close by preparing journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses and other adjustments, along with supporting schedules and sales, expense, cash-flow and other financial reporting.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready records; process employee expenses; support audit, tax and year-end requests; and respond flexibly to time-sensitive or ad hoc needs from the Finance team.
- As LUS expands into retail, you will support accounts receivable activities, including customer invoices and credit notes, cash application, aging and follow-up, deductions and short payments, and reconciliations for e-commerce platforms and payment processors.
WHAT YOU BRING
- One to two years of bookkeeping, general accounting or related experience; relevant co-op or internship experience will be considered.
- A practical understanding of accounting principles and hands-on exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and month-end activities.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software is an asset, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, sorting, filtering and pivot tables.
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field, completed or in progress; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and can balance attention to detail with forward momentum.
- You communicate clearly, collaborate generously and approach the work with passion, sound judgment and humility.
