About The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established, full-service public accounting firm serving privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and professional service firms across Canada. They are currently seeking a Senior Manager to help lead their Private Enterprise practice. In this role, you will lead compilation and review engagement files from start to completion, serve as a trusted advisor to owner-managed businesses, and contribute meaningfully to the strategic development of the practice.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead and review compilation engagements for privately-held corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietorships
- Review Notice to Reader and Review Engagement files prepared by junior and intermediate staff, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to professional standards
- Manage engagement workflow, timelines, and file progress for a portfolio of Private Enterprise clients
- Identify and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issues, escalating appropriately
- Identify and communicate value-added planning opportunities to clients in a clear, accessible manner
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and onboarding of new engagements
- Oversee preparation and review of T2 corporate tax returns and related schedules for private companies
- Review T1 personal tax returns for owner-managers, high-net-worth individuals, and family unit filings
- Mentor, coach, and develop staff at the junior, intermediate, and senior levels
- Contribute to recruitment efforts, internal training initiatives, and practice-building activities
- Participate in business development activities, including networking events and referral source management
- Experience with U.S.-connected clients - including dual-status individuals, cross-border tax filings
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
- CPA
- US CPA strongly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive public accounting experience, with a focus on the Private Enterprise / owner-managed business sector
- Minimum 5 years of experience reviewing compilation engagements and related financial statements
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and develop professional accounting staff
- Proficiency with tax preparation and practice management software
- Hands-on experience with U.S. personal income tax compliance (Form 1040, 1040NR, FBAR/FinCEN 114, Form 8938, Form 3520, etc.) is an asset
- Familiarity with Canada-U.S. tax treaty positions, departure tax, and cross-border estate planning considerations is an asset
About the Job
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with a salary range of $150,000 to $190,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The role is based out of the Markham, Ontario area, with an expectation of working on-site 3–5 days per week. During busy season will be fully onsite.
