Mader Group is a leading global provider of specialist technical services to the mining, energy and infrastructure industries. As our North American operations continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to join our team and support our operations across Canada and the USA.
This is a hands-on HRBP role for someone who enjoys being close to the business. You’ll partner with senior and operational leaders on people strategy and workforce priorities, while also confidently navigating employee relations, investigations, disciplinary matters, performance management and employment legislation.
We’re looking for someone who can move comfortably between the strategic and practical sides of HR – providing trusted advice to leaders while being prepared to roll up their sleeves and work through complex people matters.
This role is about more than managing HR processes. Our people and culture are a big part of what makes Mader, Mader. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative attraction, engagement and retention initiatives and help us continue building a workplace where people want to join, grow and stay.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll be the first point of contact for all HR-related support across our North American business. Your responsibilities will include:
- Partner with operational leaders at all levels across Canada and the USA to provide practical, commercially focused HR advice.
- Independently manage employee relations matters including disciplinary processes, investigations, grievances, performance management and terminations.
- Coach and support leaders through challenging people matters, building their confidence and capability.
- Interpret and apply relevant Canadian provincial and US employment legislation, company policies and employment requirements.
- Support workforce planning, organisational change, retention, engagement and broader people initiatives.
- Play an active role in Mader’s culture, engagement and innovative retention strategies, while bringing new ideas to strengthen the employee experience.
- Identify workforce trends, risks and opportunities and provide practical recommendations to leadership.
- Support Workers’ Compensation and return-to-work matters where required.
- Advise on employment contracts, policies, procedures and terms of employment.
- Build strong relationships across the business, from frontline employees through to senior leadership.
- Contribute to HR projects and continuous improvement as Mader continues to grow across North America.
What We're Looking For:
You’ll be an experienced HR professional who is confident working independently and comfortable operating in a fast-moving, operational environment. Ideally, you'll bring:
- A qualified HR professional (Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or similar required)
- Strong HR Business Partnering or senior HR advisory experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience managing employee relations, investigations, disciplinary matters, performance management and terminations.
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and provincial requirements.
- Experience supporting employees or operations within the USA, including navigating differing employment requirements across jurisdictions.
- The confidence to challenge, influence and coach leaders while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Sound judgement and the ability to recognise when specialist employment or legal advice is required.
- A practical, proactive approach and the ability to work autonomously.
- Experience within mining, resources, heavy industry, field services, construction, engineering or another operational environment would be highly regarded.
Why Join Mader Group?
This is an opportunity to take on a genuinely varied HR role within a growing global business with a strong, people-focused culture.
Mader has grown significantly while maintaining the connected, innovative culture that has been central to our success. We work hard, move quickly, back our people and aren't afraid to try new ideas.
You’ll have the autonomy to manage HR matters end-to-end, work closely with operational and senior leaders, and have a genuine voice in how we continue to grow our North American operations.
You’ll also be part of a business that invests in creative attraction, engagement and retention strategies, and is always looking for better ways to attract great people, recognise contribution and create reasons for our people to stay and grow with us.
We want our HR team to be part of the business, not sitting on the sidelines. You’ll be encouraged to bring ideas, challenge the status quo and help shape initiatives that make a genuine difference to our people and our culture.
If you’re an HR professional who enjoys partnering with the business, solving complex people challenges, bringing new ideas to the table and making things happen, we’d love to hear from you.
