We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to develop their technical skills, gain hands-on project experience, and work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Reporting to senior members of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical building systems while developing your knowledge of engineering standards, codes, construction practices, and project delivery.
The Opportunity
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to a variety of industrial, institutional, healthcare, commercial, and manufacturing projects.
You will work closely with senior engineers, designers, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to support projects from conceptual design through construction.
This position is well suited to someone who is technically curious, detail-oriented, comfortable asking questions, and motivated to build a strong foundation for a long-term career in mechanical engineering.
What You’ll Do
Mechanical Design & Engineering
- Assist with the design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and other mechanical building systems.
- Perform engineering calculations, equipment selections, sizing, and technical analysis under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Prepare and update mechanical drawings, schematics, specifications, schedules, and other project documentation.
- Develop mechanical models and drawings using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Assist with heating and cooling load calculations and other mechanical system calculations.
- Research equipment, materials, codes, standards, and technical requirements.
- Support the development of practical engineering solutions that consider performance, constructability, sustainability, and client requirements.
- Apply applicable codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, and other project-specific requirements. These are the primary standards identified in Mantecon's senior mechanical role. New Senior Mechanical Engineer …
Project & Construction Support
- Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Assist with project coordination to identify and resolve design conflicts.
- Participate in site investigations, field reviews, measurements, and existing-condition assessments.
- Assist with construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, contractor inquiries, and other construction documentation under the direction of senior staff.
- Attend project and coordination meetings as required.
- Assist with preparing field review reports and documenting construction progress.
- Support project documentation and deliverables to help ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
Professional Development
- Work closely with senior engineers and technical leaders to develop mechanical engineering knowledge and practical design skills.
- Incorporate feedback from senior staff and participate in internal quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Develop an understanding of the complete project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
- Build knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering coordination and consulting practices.
- Work toward increasing levels of technical responsibility and project ownership as experience develops.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, industry standards, and engineering best practices.

What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- 1–3 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience; previous consulting, co-op, internship, or building systems experience is considered an asset.
- Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical building systems.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and relevant mechanical engineering codes and standards is considered an asset.
- Experience with Revit MEP and AutoCAD is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.
