Company Description
Manulife Wealth provides clients across Canada with financial advice and strategies tailored to their goals, circumstances and life stages. Clients benefit from the strength of a global financial services organization with a national network of independent advisors and capabilities across public markets. Manulife Wealth focuses on the needs of high net worth individuals and families, offering specialized investment counselling and access to portfolio management, financial planning, insurance, and tax and estate planning.
Role Description
This is not a support role. It is an apprenticeship into running your own advisory practice, on one of the top teams in the industry. You will join one of the biggest teams, among the leading practices at Manulife Wealth, serving high net worth families across Canada. You will be based on site in Dorval and trained by advisors operating at the top of this business. You will learn to analyze client situations, build financial plans, model portfolios, prepare investment proposals and run client meetings. You will be taught how to prospect and how to close, by people who do it every day at a level most of the industry never reaches. You will begin building from day one. Your compensation grows with the assets you bring in. What you build translates directly into what you earn, with no ceiling on it, and the advisors on this team built their practices the same way.
Building your client base
This is a role for someone who wants to build something of their own, and the first years are where that foundation gets laid. A meaningful part of your week is spent developing new relationships, including outbound prospecting. You will be given the training, the scripts and the coaching to do it well, and you will be doing it alongside people who built their own practices the same way. It takes persistence, and the advisors who commit to it early are the ones who go furthest here. In exchange you get a base while you learn, direct mentorship from senior advisors on one of the strongest teams at Manulife Wealth, a national platform to bring clients onto.
Who we are looking for
Four things matter more than anything on your resume.
- A self starter. Nobody will stand over you. Your results will track your own activity almost exactly, and the people who do well here decide what needs doing and do it without being asked.
- Someone who wants to build a practice, not hold a job. You should want your own clients, your own book and your own name on the business. If the appeal is a stable seat in a good firm, this is the wrong seat.
- Coachable. You will be corrected often and directly, on your calls, your plans and your meetings. The people who progress fastest here take the correction, apply it the same day, and come back better.
- Willing to work hard. Long days, consistently, over years rather than in bursts.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in finance, economics, business or a related field.
- CIRO registered is an asset
- CFA, CFP or CIM, or progress toward them, is an asset
- Interest in investments and financial planning concepts, with the ability to explain them plainly to a client.
- Comfort with business development and building relationships from a standing start. Prior commission, sales, recruiting or business development experience carries real weight here, in any industry
- High integrity, discretion and attention to detail. You will be handling confidential client information in a regulated environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Comfort with financial and CRM software and the Microsoft Office suite, and the ability to pick up new systems quickly
