OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:
We are seeking a Senior OT Control Systems Engineer to join a critical industrial operations environment in Saint John, New Brunswick. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, support, optimization, and security of Operational Technology (OT) and industrial automation systems that enable safe and reliable operations. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in process control, industrial networking, distributed control systems, and automation technologies within complex industrial settings such as refining, manufacturing, utilities, or other process-driven environments.
This is an on-site position in Saint John, NB.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING IN THE ROLE:
- Lead the design, implementation, and enhancement of OT and industrial control system solutions to support operational and business objectives.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot automation systems, including DCS, PLC, HMI, SIS, and asset monitoring platforms.
- Develop and maintain control strategies, system configurations, and automation standards to improve performance, reliability, and safety.
- Design and support industrial networks, ensuring high availability, cybersecurity compliance, and secure system integration.
- Plan and execute system upgrades, patching, lifecycle management activities, and technology modernization initiatives.
- Monitor system health, investigate operational issues, and provide advanced troubleshooting support for critical automation infrastructure.
- Lead commissioning, startup, testing, and validation activities for new and modified control systems.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, cybersecurity, and external vendors to deliver reliable and secure automation solutions.
- Support process safety initiatives, risk assessments, and change management activities while maintaining technical documentation and procedures.
WHAT SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED TO DO THE JOB:
Required Experience
- 15+ years of experience supporting Operational Technology (OT), industrial automation, or process control environments, including significant experience in heavy industrial operations.
- Strong expertise with industrial control technologies, including DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and industrial networking platforms.
- Hands-on experience with OT infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, network architecture, and system lifecycle management.
- Proven experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing complex automation and control environments.
- Previous experience in refining, petrochemical, energy, utilities, manufacturing, or other process-intensive industries is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise
- Honeywell Experion PKS, TPS/TDC, Safety Manager, and HMI Web.
- Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
- Industrial Ethernet, Cisco networking, firewalls, and OT cybersecurity solutions.
- Active Directory, Windows Server environments, VMware, and related OT infrastructure technologies.
- Asset monitoring and reliability systems such as Emerson AMS, Bently Nevada, CCC, and Prognost.
Education & Certifications

Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Industrial Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or a related field.

Professional engineering designation, engineering technologist certification, or relevant industry certifications are considered assets.

Certifications in Honeywell technologies, Cisco networking, OT/ICS cybersecurity, instrumentation, or electrical disciplines are highly regarded
