Matrix Camps, Logistics & Aviation is seeking a reliable, hardworking PACTO Cleaner / Camp Sanitation Worker to support daily sanitation and housekeeping at a remote camp near Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. This hands-on position focuses on cleaning and servicing PACTO toilet facilities, handling sanitation waste, maintaining shower facilities and supporting general camp cleanliness. The successful candidate must be comfortable working around human waste, following sanitation procedures and completing physically demanding tasks throughout a 12-hour shift. Reporting to the Lead Housekeeper, you will help maintain clean, sanitary facilities for everyone living and working at camp. Key Responsibilities
- Clean, sanitize and service PACTO toilet facilities according to site procedures and established schedules.
- Remove, replace and handle toilet waste bags and liners as required, using designated protective equipment and handling procedures.
- Prepare and transfer sanitation waste for the site’s designated disposal or incineration process, following training and site direction.
- Clean and disinfect toilet surfaces, shower facilities, fixtures and frequently touched surfaces.
- Sweep and mop floors in toilet, shower and other assigned areas.
- Restock toilet paper, soap, cleaning products and other sanitation supplies.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and paper-product inventory and report shortages to the Lead Housekeeper.
- Inspect facilities during cleaning and promptly report leaks, damage, blockages, equipment issues or other maintenance concerns.
- Collect garbage, transport waste to designated collection areas and support the camp’s waste and recycling program.
- Clean common areas, including the dining room, recreation room, television room and laundry facilities.
- Wash, dry and replace bed linens and assist with general housekeeping as assigned.
- Support kitchen cleaning and grocery receiving when required.
- Complete daily cleaning checklists and logs.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings and site emergency drills.
- Follow safe work practices and report incidents, accidents and unsafe conditions immediately.
Requirements
- One to two seasons of experience working in a remote camp environment.
- Previous janitorial, housekeeping or sanitation experience is an asset.
- Willingness to clean toilet facilities and handle human waste as a regular part of the position.
- Strong attention to detail and a consistent approach to cleanliness.
- Ability to follow cleaning instructions, waste-handling procedures and site safety requirements.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying supplies and waste.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a three-week rotation.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and a clean driver’s abstract are assets.
- First Aid certification is an asset.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Travel and Camp Arrangements
- Live at camp during your scheduled rotation.
- Charter travel arranged through designated departure points, which may include local communities, Edmonton or Yellowknife.
- Meals and camp accommodations provided.
- Travel allowance available in accordance with the assignment’s travel arrangements.
