Role Description The McCall MacBain Research Chairs are full-time, on-site academic positions at the assistant, associate or full professor level, based at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. Chairholders will lead an internationally competitive research program, secure external research funding, and produce high-quality scholarly outputs. They will supervise and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and research staff, fostering an inclusive and collaborative research culture. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting original research, building interdisciplinary partnerships within and beyond the university, and disseminating findings through publications, conferences, and community engagement. Chairs will also contribute to teaching, curriculum development, and service to their department and the broader university community.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in research, including a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, scholarly impact, and leadership in their field.
- Proven ability to secure and manage external research funding and to lead complex, collaborative research projects.
- Experience supervising and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff, with a commitment to inclusive and equitable research training.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and cross-sector partnerships.
- A doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and a profile commensurate with a research chair appointment at a leading research university.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in research, teaching, and service.
- Experience contributing to academic program development, teaching at the university level, and participating in departmental or institutional governance is an asset.
- Recognition through awards, honours, or other indicators of national or international standing in their area of expertise is highly desirable.
