Role: Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) – Infrastructure & Developer Platform
Location: Vancouver / Hybrid
Job Type: Long-Term Contract
Ideal Years Experience: 8+ years
Role Description
The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a hands-on, technically fluent analyst embedded in the Infrastructure team, responsible for shaping how developers and testers consume infrastructure, environments, and tooling. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, and SecOps, translating the needs of engineering and QA teams into clear requirements, workflows, and service definitions for the Internal Developer Platform (IDP). A central focus is the Control Tower – a horizontal, self-service platform that provides developers and testers with standardized, pre-configured infrastructure, environments, pipelines, and security guardrails so they can minimize time spent on infrastructure setup and configuration. The successful candidate will partner with platform, cloud, DevOps, and security engineers to define platform capabilities, document current- and target-state processes, drive adoption, and measure the platform’s impact on developer productivity, reliability, and compliance. The individual will be expected to step into Scrum Lead responsibilities for the platform team when needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Elicit, analyze, and document requirements from development, QA, and product teams for infrastructure provisioning, environment setup, CI/CD, observability, and access management; translate them into prioritized epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for the IDP backlog.
· Serve as lead analyst and product owner proxy for the Control Tower, defining the service catalog, golden paths, self-service workflows, and onboarding journeys that allow developers and testers to stand up compliant environments without manual infrastructure configuration.
· Map current-state infrastructure setup and configuration processes end to end, identify friction, handoffs, and manual steps, and design target-state workflows that automate or eliminate them.
· Partner with platform and cloud engineers on infrastructure-as-code standards, environment templates, and landing-zone patterns, ensuring requirements are captured in reusable, versioned modules.
· Work with DevOps engineers to define requirements for CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment automation, artifact management, release gating, and environment promotion.
· Collaborate with SecOps and compliance teams to embed security controls into the platform – identity and access management, secrets management, policy-as-code, vulnerability scanning, and audit logging – so that security is a default rather than a manual gate.
· Define and track platform KPIs such as environment lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, onboarding time, self-service adoption, and cost per environment; publish dashboards and insights to stakeholders.
· Own platform documentation, runbooks, service definitions, and user guides; drive enablement, training, and communication to development and testing teams.
· Facilitate workshops, design reviews, and prioritization sessions across infrastructure, development, QA, and security stakeholders; manage dependencies and resolve competing requirements.
· Support Agile delivery within the platform team – backlog refinement, sprint planning, UAT coordination, and release readiness – and perform Scrum Lead responsibilities when required.
· Assess vendor tools and managed services (developer portals, cloud services, security tooling) against business and technical requirements and support build-versus-buy decisions.
· Champion a product mindset for internal platforms: treat developers and testers as customers, gather feedback continuously, and iterate on the Control Tower roadmap.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Personal Requirements
· 8+ years as a Business Systems Analyst, Technical Analyst, Platform Product Owner, or similar role, including at least 3 years supporting infrastructure, cloud, or DevOps teams.
· Strong working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), networking fundamentals, compute and storage services, and environment provisioning patterns.
· Hands-on familiarity with DevOps practices and tooling – CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep), containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and configuration management.
· Understanding of Internal Developer Platform concepts – developer portals (e.g., Backstage), service catalogs, golden paths, self-service provisioning, and platform-as-a-product operating models.
· Working knowledge of SecOps and cloud security principles – IAM and least privilege, secrets management, policy-as-code, vulnerability and compliance scanning, and frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, or NIST.
· Proven ability to translate technical and non-technical stakeholder needs into clear requirements, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
· Experience with process mapping and analysis techniques (BPMN, value-stream mapping, gap analysis) applied to infrastructure and software delivery workflows.
· Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, and Kanban; experience working in or facilitating platform or infrastructure squads.
· Data-driven approach to measuring platform adoption and developer productivity (e.g., DORA metrics), with proficiency in building dashboards and reports.
· Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills; able to bridge infrastructure engineers, developers, testers, security teams, and leadership.
· Experience evaluating vendors and tools and contributing to business cases for platform investments.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer, CBAP, CKAD, Security+) are an asset.
Preferred Attributes
Technically curious analyst who is comfortable reading Terraform, pipeline definitions, and architecture diagrams, and equally comfortable running a stakeholder workshop. Treats internal platforms as products, has genuine empathy for developer and tester pain points, and is motivated by removing friction. Comfortable working in ambiguity, balancing security and compliance guardrails with developer velocity, and iterating quickly on the Control Tower roadmap.
