Job Summary
The Software Developer Intern will contribute to the enhancement of internal business web applications, with a primary focus on C#/.NET development and web user interfaces. Working with the Business Intelligence & Digital Solutions Manager and designated technical resources, the intern will implement clearly scoped features, improve application screens, correct assigned defects, test changes, and maintain technical documentation. The intern must also be comfortable using approved AI-assisted development tools as part of the development workflow.
This is a hands-on development internship for a student who has built software through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or previous co-op experience and wants to learn how an existing business application is maintained and improved. Architecture decisions, production ownership, critical incident resolution, and final release approval remain with the manager or designated technical resource.
What You Will Work On
- Use approved AI-assisted development tools to support code exploration, implementation, refactoring, test creation, debugging, and documentation, while reviewing and validating all generated output.
- Develop clearly scoped features and enhancements for internal C#/.NET web applications.
- Build and improve web interfaces such as forms, data-entry screens, navigation, validation messages, search, filters, and data tables.
- Connect user-interface components to existing application services and data sources under technical guidance.
- Use basic SQL to retrieve, validate, and troubleshoot application data.
- Reproduce and correct assigned application defects and usability issues.
- Create and execute test cases covering expected behaviour, validation, and error scenarios.
- Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.
- Document application behaviour, business rules, test results, technical changes, and support procedures.
- Work with internal users to understand screen-level requirements and validate completed changes.
Technology Environment
The application environment may include the following technologies. Candidates are not expected to have experience with every item:
- C# and .NET web development
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Microsoft SQL Server and SQL
- Visual Studio and Git or another source-control tool
- Web forms, tables, validation, and data-driven user interfaces
- Approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, debugging, code explanation, and technical documentation
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university programme in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Web Development, or a related discipline.
- Academic, personal-project, hackathon, or co-op experience using C# and object-oriented programming.
- Basic understanding of web application development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Ability to explain the design, code, and learning from at least one software project.
- Strong attention to detail, structured problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn through code review and feedback.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Demonstrated exposure to AI-assisted software development through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or co-op work. The candidate must be able to explain how an AI coding assistant was used and how its output was reviewed, tested, corrected, or rejected.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing software with C# (MUST)
- Exposure to ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core MVC, Razor, or another C# web framework.
- Experience creating forms, tables, navigation, field validation, or responsive web layouts.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, REST APIs, Git, Visual Studio, or software testing.(Plus)
- A portfolio, code sample, Git repository, coursework project, or capstone project demonstrating C# or web application development.
- Experience reading or improving an existing codebase rather than only creating new projects.
- Interest in internal business systems supporting sales, inventory, pricing, forecasting, finance, or operations.

- Application screens become clearer, more consistent, or easier for internal users to operate.
- Progress is demonstrated in C#/.NET development, UI implementation, SQL, testing, source control, and technical communication.
- AI-assisted output is treated as a draft: code and documentation are understood, verified, tested, and aligned with security, confidentiality, licensing, and team standards before use.
The expected base salary range for this role is CAD 18–22/hour. Final compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the position. This job posting represents a current opportunity within the company.
