Company Description Midlite Powerline Construction specializes in powerline, substation, and fiber optic construction and maintenance across a wide voltage range from 25kV to 260kV. Role Description Positions available in multiple locations across Western Canada . The PLT will perform construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground powerlines, substations, and related infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks include installing, removing, and replacing poles, conductors, insulators, and hardware; stringing and sagging lines; and performing switching, grounding, and line isolation procedures as required. The PLT will inspect and test equipment, identify faults, and complete corrective work in accordance with safety regulations, company standards, and applicable codes. The role also involves working with crews and supervisors to plan work, operate and maintain tools and equipment, complete job documentation, and participate actively in safety meetings and training.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) or equivalent recognized trade certification, with experience in transmission and distribution line work.
- Demonstrated ability to construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems, including substations and related equipment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards, utility regulations, and safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, grounding, and working at heights.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining industry tools and equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, digger derricks, rigging, hand and power tools) and climbing or working from aerial devices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, line maps, staking sheets, and technical documentation, and to complete accurate field reports and logs.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with supervisors, crew members, and contractors in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment.
- Physical capability to perform manual labor, work in varying weather conditions, and travel or work extended hours as project needs require.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class 3 or equivalent and safety certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, CSTS) are assets.
