About Midtown Therapy Group
Midtown Therapy Group is an Ontario-based mental health practice committed to affordable, accessible, and evidence-aligned care. We specialize in practical, skills-based treatment that helps individuals develop healthier behaviours and make sustainable changes.
We are expanding our addiction recovery services and seeking a part-time Occupational Therapist (OT) with expertise in addictions and a strong interest in behavioural coaching.
About the Role
This is not a traditional occupational therapy position. We seek an OT who helps clients bridge the gap between knowing what to do and consistently doing it.
Substance use recovery can be complicated by difficulties with motivation, executive functioning, emotional regulation, avoidance, and routines.
You will provide structured, individualized occupational therapy and behavioural coaching, collaborating with psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
A central component is supporting clients between psychotherapy sessions to apply treatment strategies, establish routines, strengthen accountability, and maintain progress in everyday life.
Key Responsibilities
Addiction Recovery & Behavioural Coaching
- Provide individualized recovery-oriented OT services and behavioural coaching for people experiencing substance use challenges.
- Help clients translate therapeutic goals into concrete, achievable steps; provide check-ins, encouragement, accountability, and progress monitoring.
- Identify barriers, support responses to setbacks, and maintain engagement with recovery goals.
Practical Skills & Daily Functioning
- Support planning, organization, time management, executive functioning, and follow-through.
- Develop practical strategies for cravings, triggers, avoidance, and high-risk situations within the OT scope of practice.
- Use behavioural activation, motivational interviewing, habit formation, and other evidence-informed approaches.
- Build balanced routines for sleep, self-care, work, relationships, recreation, and meaningful activities.
Collaboration & Treatment Implementation
- Collaborate with psychotherapists to support individualized treatment goals and between-session implementation.
- Problem-solve treatment adherence barriers; share progress with the care team with appropriate consent.
- Document outcomes and adapt interventions to clients' needs.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Occupational Therapist in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Clinical experience with substance use disorders or addiction-related challenges.
- Knowledge of addiction recovery, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and behaviour change.
- Ability to turn goals into practical strategies, with strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Comfort working independently, collaboratively, and virtually.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coaching experience (addiction recovery, health, executive functioning, or behavioural coaching).
- Experience providing structured support between psychotherapy or other treatment sessions.
- Training or experience in MI, CBT, DBT, or ACT.
- Experience with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, or concurrent mental health conditions.
- Experience with structured goal-setting, accountability systems, and intensive outpatient or community-based addiction services.
Who We're Looking For
Someone who enjoys helping people turn intentions into actions; recognizes that recovery requires daily structure and sustainable behavioural change; balances empathy and validation with encouragement and accountability; and brings a collaborative, practical OT perspective to treatment.
What We Offer
- Flexible, part-time scheduling and an interdisciplinary clinical environment.
- Collaboration with experienced psychotherapists and other health professionals.
- An opportunity to shape a practical, coaching-oriented addiction recovery service and expand responsibilities as it grows.
How to Apply
Please submit your resumé and a brief cover letter describing your experience in addiction treatment, occupational therapy, and behavioural coaching.
We would particularly like to hear how you help clients make sustainable changes in everyday life.
