Family Law Associate
Location: Midtown Toronto
Experience: 1–5 years
Work Arrangement: Full-time, in office five days per week
The Opportunity
A highly regarded boutique family law firm located at Yonge and Eglinton, is seeking a Family Law Associate with 2–5 years of experience to join its growing team.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced family law practitioners on a broad range of sophisticated matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer seeking meaningful responsibility, strong mentorship and the opportunity to develop their advocacy skills within a collegial, specialized firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage family law matters with an appropriate level of independence and partner supervision
- Advise clients on separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and property division
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, financial statements, conference briefs, domestic contracts and other legal documents
- Conduct legal research and prepare written opinions and litigation materials
- Represent clients at case conferences, settlement conferences, motions and other court appearances
- Participate in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations and settlement discussions
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts and other professionals
- Develop practical and strategic solutions tailored to each client’s circumstances
- Maintain organized files and meet all procedural and court-imposed deadlines
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of post-call family law experience
- Experience handling both contested and uncontested family law matters
- Strong drafting, research, negotiation and oral advocacy skills
- Experience appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice and/or Superior Court of Justice
- Sound judgment and the ability to manage sensitive and emotionally complex matters professionally
- Excellent interpersonal and client-service skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and capable of managing competing deadlines
- Able to work collaboratively while taking ownership of assigned matters
