Original job description

Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes to support New Product Introduction (NPI), production efficiency, product quality, and cost competitiveness. This role serves as the manufacturing engineering technical lead, partnering with Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and suppliers to ensure products are designed and manufactured using robust, efficient, and scalable processes.

This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys leading technical projects, solving complex manufacturing challenges, and driving continuous improvement in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, validate, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
  • Lead the transition of new products from design through pilot builds into full-scale production.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Manufacturing BOMs, routings, work instructions, test procedures, process flow diagrams, PFMEA, cycle time standards, equipment, fixture, jig, and tools.
  • Partner with Product Engineering to drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost optimization.
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, etc.) and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput, increase First Pass Yield (FPY), and lower Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
  • Lead cross-functional projects involving Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and suppliers to support product lifecycle improvements and cost reduction.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), process validation, production readiness, and manufacturing cost estimates for quotations.
  • Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to production, resolving technical issues and improving process capability and equipment effectiveness.
  • Act as the primary Manufacturing Engineering representative in cross-functional meetings, customer discussions, and production readiness reviews.
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
  • Support customer quotation and technical inquiry.
  • Occasionally travel to customer or supplier locations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing process development.
  • Strong experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of DFM, DFA, GD&T, D/P-FMEA, process validation, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems, BOM structures, routings, Engineering Change (ECO) processes, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience designing manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and production aids.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and validation methodologies is an asset.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Self-motivated, hands-on, and results oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills without direct authority.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
