About the Position
The successful candidate will be a key part of the Product Development team. The candidate will work on a team and support senior engineers in R&D and new product development. The role could involve both developing concepts in CAD for mechanical systems, as well as developing electrical systems for proprietary sensors and gateways, and then iterating on prototypes. The candidate will apply strong knowledge and affi nity for design and electrical engineering, showcase expertise in computer-aided design software and programming, and collaborate with other teams to develop, test, and manufacture systems for both existing and new products. The candidate will need to be profi cient in independently solving problems, as well as collaborating with others.
Roles & Responsibilities
● Lead the schematic capture and PCB layout for proprietary sensors and gateways
● Develop and design application-specifi c electronic products
● Perform hardware development, validation testing, and test system design
● Select, program, and deploy application-specific electronic systems
● Ensure DFM for PCB manufacturing processes.
● SolidWorks 3D modeling and CAD management
● Low volume prototyping, sourcing components, in house assembly and proof of concepts
● Create conceptual and detailed designs of prototypes and products for manufacture
● Evaluate components to verify conformance with specifi cations
● Prepare and execute engineering change notices for drawing, BOM, and process changes
● Review and optimize design of components for cost down opportunities
● Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documentation and reporting
● Other related duties as required
Required Skills & Attributes
● Design and develop application-specifi c electronic products
● Technical engineering drawing experience. Familiarity with SolidWorks required
● Lead on schematic capture and PCB layout using tools like Altium
● Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and PCB manufacturing processes
● Familiarity with hardware development, validation testing, and test system design
● Select, program, and deployment of application-specifi c electronic systems
● Strong mechanical aptitude
● Working knowledge of materials and their applications
● Knowledge of thermal and mechanical FEA simulation
● Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
● Exhibit excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
● Ability to grasp both high-level concepts and dynamics within complex systems as well as the ability to root cause/investigate detailed issues
Beneficial Skills & Experience
● System design for low-power applications
● Experience with IOT Systems, embedded Linux, and Docker
● Understanding of electro-mechanical devices
● Experience with certifi cation and compliance for new hardware products
● Advanced programming skills
● Experience with LabView or similar data acquisition tools
● Fluent in multiple programming languages such as Python and C
● Experience with FEA/CFD.
● Optics and optical train design principles.
● Precision mechanical drive systems (timing belts, spur gears, gear-motors, encoders etc.)
● Knowledge of part design for plastic injection molding.
●Experience with 3D printing, CNC, using shop tools, etc.
