About the Role
The Teaching and Learning Enhancement Grant (TLEG) Project Assistant will support a project that transforms archived interview footage from an English-as-an-Additional-Language (EAL) Nursing
Student Support Program into short educational video cases and accompanying teaching resources. Working with the faculty project lead and MRU Academic Development Centre Media team, the Project
Assistant will review and organize approximately 20 hours of archived interview footage, identify meaningful excerpts, document themes and timecodes, and contribute interpretive and storytelling
observations to support the development of approximately three to four intercultural teaching cases. The project explores themes such as intercultural learning, belonging, psychological safety,
mentorship, community building, student experience, and longer-term impacts of educational support.
This is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week.
Responsibilities
Archive review and candidate-clip identification.
- Review archived interview video and related project materials.
- Identify specific excerpts relevant to the project's educational goals.
- Record accurate start/end timecodes, speaker information, and concise summaries.
- Identify material that may contribute to the development of short educational video cases.
Thematic organization and interpretive documentation
- Organize candidate excerpts into emerging themes and subthemes.
- Prepare concise interpretive notes describing the educational or storytelling significance of selected material.
- Identify connections across interviews and flag possible gaps requiring further clarification or content.
Transcript, caption, and project-material preparation
- Assist with transcript review/cleanup and caption preparation as required.
- Organize project files and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and accessible records for collaboration with the ADC Media team.
Collaboration and project meetings
- Participate in regular project check-ins with the faculty project lead and ADC Media team.
- Share progress, emerging observations, questions, and recommendations.
- Prepare working materials prior to scheduled project meetings.
Teaching-resource and dissemination support
- Provide input on clarity, intercultural relevance, and learner meaning-making.
- Assist with preparation of related teaching/resource materials as the project develops.
Qualifications
- 6-12 months relevant
- 3-4 year bachelor's degree
- Experience with qualitative research, interview data, narrative or thematic analysis, intercultural learning, student support, education, health, social sciences, or related fields would be an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work sensitively with archived interview material are important for this role.
- Experience with transcript review, coding/categorization, or research/project assistance is also an asset.
Salary: $15.45 - $19.44 per hour
