Senior Electrical Estimator – Electrical Construction
Location: Richmond Hill, ON
Salary: $140,000 - $220,000
We are representing an established electrical and mechanical construction contractor delivering complex commercial, institutional, industrial, and infrastructure projects across the Greater Toronto Area.
The Senior Electrical Estimator will take ownership of estimating complex electrical construction projects from early conceptual and design-assist stages through competitive tender and final pricing. This position will work closely with project teams, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and clients while helping maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency across the estimating department.
Must Haves
- 8+ years of electrical construction estimating experience with an electrical contractor, including experience independently preparing complex bids.
- Strong knowledge of commercial, institutional, industrial, or large-scale electrical construction projects.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, tender documents, single-line diagrams, and construction documentation.
- Hands-on experience completing detailed electrical take-offs, labour estimates, material pricing, subcontractor analysis, and final bid preparation.
- Proficiency with electrical estimating and take-off software such as Accubid, LiveCount, Bluebeam, or comparable platforms.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, labour productivity, material requirements, procurement, and project costs.
Nice to Haves
- 309A Electrician licence, Electrical Engineering degree, Certified Engineering Technologist designation, or similar electrical construction education.
- Experience with design-build, design-assist, pre-construction, conceptual estimating, or value engineering.
- Experience estimating large-scale MEP, high-rise, healthcare, data centre, institutional, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
- Existing relationships with electrical suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and industry partners throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior estimators.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complete electrical construction estimates from conceptual and schematic design through design development, tender, and construction stages.
- Review drawings, specifications, RFQs, tender instructions, schedules, bonding requirements, insurance requirements, and other bid documentation.
- Complete detailed quantity take-offs and develop labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and project-related cost estimates.
- Identify scope gaps, ambiguities, constructibility issues, and project risks and prepare RFIs or clarifications where required.
- Develop competitive installation strategies, value-engineering alternatives, and cost-saving solutions during the estimating process.
- Solicit, review, level, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
- Prepare scope clarifications, exclusions, qualifications, breakout pricing, and supporting documentation for tender submissions.
- Manage estimating strategy and project costing from early-stage budgeting through final tender submission.
- Present and explain estimates, assumptions, risks, and pricing strategies to internal leadership, project teams, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walkthroughs, design meetings, and project handover discussions as required.
- Maintain accurate labour rates, material pricing, productivity information, historical cost data, and estimating software databases.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, manufacturers, consultants, and clients.
- Review estimates prepared by other team members and provide quality assurance, guidance, and technical support where required.
- Mentor and support developing estimators while contributing to improvements in estimating processes, standards, and best practices.
