Senior Enterprise Information / Data Architect
Location: Ottawa, ON preferred; Toronto, ON acceptable
Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week (open to discuss)
Travel: Limited – potential travel between Ottawa and Toronto, approximately once per quarter
Contract: 15+ months, through December 31, 2027
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Clearance: No existing security clearance required; successful candidate must be eligible to obtain the required clearance following an offer.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a
Senior Enterprise Information / Data Architect to help shape and advance enterprise information management and data architecture within a large, complex organization.
This role requires someone who can bridge
enterprise information architecture and practical data engineering. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in
enterprise data modelling, information architecture and Master Data Management (MDM) while also understanding how architecture translates into
data engineering patterns, pipelines and modern data platforms.
This is
not a website, application or infrastructure architecture role. The focus is enterprise information and data architecture.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain Enterprise Information Management frameworks, standards and roadmaps.
- Create and manage conceptual and enterprise business information models that provide a future-state view of the organization's information landscape.
- Define information architecture using metamodels, taxonomies, ontologies and information classification frameworks.
- Establish and maintain representations of enterprise data assets, including data sources, structures, business glossaries, classifications, relationships and high-level data flows.
- Support enterprise Master Data Management (MDM), metadata management, data integration, analytics and information management capabilities.
- Translate enterprise information architecture into practical data treatment patterns, engineering approaches and data pipelines.
- Work closely with data architects, engineers and other technical teams to ensure architecture can be implemented effectively.
- Contribute to data modernization initiatives and evolving architectural approaches such as Data Mesh.
- Partner with data, analytics, business and technology stakeholders to develop effective information governance processes and structures.
- Lead discovery sessions to understand business data objectives, challenges and requirements.
- Develop and maintain an enterprise information management vision, strategy and roadmap.
- Promote the discoverability and self-service use of enterprise information assets.
- Identify and recommend appropriate enterprise data solutions and capabilities.
- Mentor data architects and promote consistent understanding and use of enterprise data assets.
- Communicate complex information and data architecture concepts clearly to both technical and senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of data standards, architecture processes, tools and best practices.
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
- 10+ years of relevant senior-level experience in enterprise information architecture, data architecture or closely related disciplines.
- 10+ years of experience with enterprise data modelling and information classification.
- Significant experience developing and working with information architecture frameworks, information models, metamodels, taxonomies and ontologies.
- Strong enterprise data modelling experience, including conceptual and future-state information models.
- Strong understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) and enterprise information management.
- Understanding of data engineering architecture, including data treatment patterns, integration approaches and data pipelines.
- Experience developing enterprise-level data/information strategies, standards, frameworks and roadmaps.
- Experience supporting information governance, metadata management, data integration and data discoverability.
- Ability to translate business requirements and enterprise architecture into practical technical approaches.
- Experience working with architects, engineers, technology teams, operations and business stakeholders.
- Experience operating within large, complex enterprise environments.
- Broad exposure to multiple technologies and environments rather than experience limited to a single platform or ecosystem.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, collaboration and mentoring capabilities.
Highly Desirable
- Experience with data modernization and Data Mesh concepts.
- Experience bridging enterprise information/data architecture and hands-on data engineering concepts.
- Experience with capability modelling.
- Experience within complex, highly regulated or large-scale organizations.
- TOGAF certification or experience applying TOGAF principles.
- MBA or related advanced education.
The Ideal Profile
The strongest candidate will combine two complementary areas of expertise:
Enterprise Information Architecture: Deep knowledge of
enterprise data modelling, information models, MDM, metadata, classification, taxonomies, ontologies and long-term information architecture.
Technical Data Architecture: A strong understanding of how enterprise architecture translates into
data engineering patterns, integration approaches, data treatment, pipelines and modern data platforms.
Candidates do not need to be hands-on data engineers, but they should be technically strong enough to work effectively with engineering teams and turn enterprise architecture into
practical, implementable data solutions.
Additional Information
This is a senior individual contributor/architecture role working primarily with
architects, engineers and technical stakeholders, with additional interaction with senior business stakeholders.
The successful candidate will join a complex enterprise environment undergoing continued evolution of its
information management, data architecture and data modernization capabilities.
