Staff Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer
We are seeking a Staff Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and test mission-critical firmware components for advanced embedded optical systems. This is a one-year contract based in Ottawa, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, code, and test software for next-generation embedded optical platforms.
- Review, analyze, and refine software requirements for multiple features.
- Propose and finalize software designs that can be translated into maintainable code.
- Develop and test code that meets specifications.
- Work deeply with RTOS or embedded Linux concepts, including interrupts, device drivers, memory management, and multithreading.
- Review test plans and recommend test cases for developed code.
- Debug and resolve complex issues reported by test teams and customers.
- Apply object-oriented design principles and design patterns to feature development.
Skills & Experience
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with embedded software development experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded systems design and development.
- Excellent object-oriented design and expert C++ programming skills.
- Deep understanding of multithreaded software systems and operating-system concepts.
- Knowledge of at least one scripting language; Python preferred.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with version control such as GIT and bug tracking tools such as JIRA.
- Experience with optical devices, OTN, CMIS, DSP/line configuration, alarms, or coherent systems is an asset.
