About NanoTech Innovation
NanoTech Innovation is an award-winning Canadian advanced materials company transforming how industries protect their assets against corrosion. Our proprietary, nano-enabled coating technology allows customers to protect corroded metal surfaces without costly abrasive blasting, significantly reducing surface preparation time, maintenance costs, and operational downtime.
With growing traction across oil & gas, marine, commercial buildings, and industrial infrastructure, we are expanding our business development team to accelerate commercial adoption of our technology.
About the Role
We are seeking a technically minded, commercially driven Technical Business Development Manager who can bridge the gap between engineering and business development.
We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding technical challenges, building long-term customer relationships, market limitations, identifying new market opportunities, and translating innovative technology into compelling business solutions.
You will work directly with industrial customers, R&D/engineering teams, asset managers, asset integrity engineers, building envelope consultants, maintenance professionals, and procurement decision-makers to understand their corrosion protection challenges and demonstrate how NanoTech's solutions can deliver measurable technical and economic benefits.
You will play a key role in developing opportunities from initial engagement through technical evaluation, pilot projects, proposals, and commercial contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Building
· Identify and engage prospective customers in oil & gas, marine, commercial buildings, and industrial infrastructure.
· Develop relationships with engineering teams, maintenance managers, asset owners, contractors, and procurement professionals.
· Identify customer pain points, project requirements, and opportunities for NanoTech's technology.
· Build and manage a pipeline of qualified business opportunities, from initial discussions to contract execution.
· Develop strategic relationships with industrial partners, contractors, distributors, and other industry stakeholders.
Technical & Consultative Sales
· Conduct meaningful technical discussions with customers to understand their operational challenges and coating requirements.
· Explain NanoTech's technology, product performance, application methods, and competitive advantages in a clear and compelling manner.
· Review customer project requirements and collaborate with our technical team to propose appropriate coating solutions.
· Develop technical and commercial proposals, including cost-benefit analyses, ROI assessments, and comparisons against conventional corrosion protection methods.
· Coordinate product demonstrations, field trials, pilot projects, and technical follow-ups.
· Translate technical capabilities into practical business benefits, including reduced maintenance costs, minimized downtime, and improved asset protection.
Commercial Growth & Market Development
· Identify and develop opportunities in new markets and applications.
· Support negotiations, pricing discussions, proposals, and contract closure.
· Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to support product development and commercialization strategy.
· Represent NanoTech at industry conferences, trade shows, customer meetings, and technical events.
· Work closely with company leadership and R&D teams to align customer requirements with technical capabilities.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
· Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand industrial products, engineering challenges, and customer project requirements.
· Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
· Commercial mindset with a genuine interest in business development, consultative selling, and customer engagement.
· Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of business development opportunities.
· Willingness to visit industrial facilities, customer sites, and attend industry events.
· Minimum of 3 years experience in industrial coatings, corrosion protection, surface treatment, paints, or advanced materials.
· Previous experience with a coatings manufacturer, chemical manufacturer, industrial materials supplier, or technical solutions provider.
· Business development, technical sales, application engineering, or customer-facing experience in industrial markets.
· Familiarity with industrial coating systems, surface preparation, corrosion mechanisms, or maintenance practices.
· Knowledge of oil & gas, marine, industrial infrastructure, or commercial building maintenance.
· Experience developing technical proposals, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and supporting commercial negotiations.
· Existing industry relationships and experience managing complex B2B sales cycles are considered strong assets.
What We're Looking For
We value technical curiosity, commercial initiative, and relationship-building ability over traditional sales experience alone.
The ideal candidate is someone who:
· Enjoys engaging with engineers and industrial customers to solve real-world problems.
· Can see both the technical and financial sides of a customer's challenge.
· Is comfortable initiating conversations and developing opportunities independently.
· Thinks strategically about building relationships and turning pilot projects into long-term commercial contracts.
· Is excited to help bring an innovative Canadian technology into major industrial markets.
