IT Project Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex technology initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with business and technology stakeholders, development teams, and cross-functional partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with established business objectives.
The role requires strong project leadership, financial management, risk management, stakeholder communication, and the ability to effectively manage projects throughout the full delivery lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-level project plans and ensure project scope, objectives, timelines, and delivery approach are clearly understood by all stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, and critical paths.
- Ensure the supporting Business Case remains current throughout the project lifecycle and work with business stakeholders to ensure business case objectives are achieved.
- Maintain accurate and timely project reporting across all required systems and project records.
- Direct, coordinate, and monitor project activities and work efforts on a regular basis.
- Review development estimates provided by technical and development teams and actively seek clarification or validation where required.
- Manage project financials, including budgets, forecasts, actuals, and variances, ensuring accurate reporting within the organization's Enterprise Portfolio Management system.
- Establish and track key project milestones, including baselines and critical-path activities.
- Monitor and communicate project progress, including cost, schedule, forecast, risks, issues, dependencies, and overall delivery status.
- Prepare and deliver project status reporting to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Negotiate and influence cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate resources are engaged and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proactively identify project risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints and develop appropriate mitigation and contingency strategies.
- Establish and maintain effective change control processes to manage changes to project scope, schedule, cost, and deliverables.
- Work closely with technical and business teams to ensure project deliverables meet established quality standards.
- Oversee quality assurance activities and ensure appropriate end-to-end testing resources are identified, planned, and deployed.
- Coordinate project dependencies across multiple teams and workstreams.
- Facilitate project governance meetings, status reviews, steering committee meetings, and other project forums as required.
- Facilitate post-implementation reviews and ensure lessons learned are documented and incorporated into future projects.
- Maintain strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Recommended Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of IT and business experience, including experience managing project teams, analysis functions, programming teams, or technology delivery teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex IT projects from initiation through implementation.
- Strong understanding of project financial management, including budgets, forecasts, actuals, and variance management.
- Experience working with Enterprise Portfolio Management (EPM) or similar project financial/reporting systems.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, governance, risk management, change control, and delivery processes.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Experience working across business, technology, development, QA, and other cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Certification
A recognized Project Management certification is required or strongly preferred, such as:
- PMP – Project Management Professional
- CAPM – Certified Associate in Project Management
- PRINCE2
- Certified Project Management Practitioner
- IPMA certification
- Equivalent recognized project management certification
