Role Description The Senior Information Technology Specialist is a contract, hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, with a mix of on-site client visits and work-from-home flexibility. This role is responsible for managing and maintaining customer network and server infrastructure, including monitoring systems, performing updates, and ensuring high availability and performance. The specialist will diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, handle escalations from the helpdesk, and implement security controls and best practices across client environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring and supporting firewalls, switches, and endpoints; managing cloud and on-premises environments; and performing routine backups, disaster recovery tests, and documentation. The role involves frequent interaction with clients to understand business needs, provide technical guidance, participate in projects such as migrations and deployments, and contribute to continuous improvement of tools, processes, and standards.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Information Technology, including experience with managed services, cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure), and Windows/Linux server environments.
- Proficiency in Network Administration, covering routing and switching, wireless networks, VPNs, and network performance optimization.
- Hands-on expertise in Network Security, including firewalls, endpoint protection, intrusion detection/prevention, and security best practices aligned with compliance frameworks.
- Advanced Troubleshooting skills for resolving complex hardware, software, and network issues, with experience handling escalated support tickets and critical incidents.
- Excellent Customer Service skills, including clear communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA), or similar credentials are highly beneficial.
- Experience working with MSPs or in multi-tenant environments, and familiarity with ITIL-based processes and documentation standards.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid setting, prioritize tasks in a fast-moving environment, and travel to client sites in
