Nexus Risk Management is seeking an actuarial or quantitative professional to join our Next Generation Asset Liability Management and Hedging team in Toronto or Montreal.
Nexus helps insurers connect investment strategy, risk management and financial performance across economic, accounting and regulatory capital measures. We combine advisory expertise with ongoing monitoring, rebalancing, optimization, and execution support.
This role offers hands-on experience with institutional ALM, derivatives, portfolio optimization and enterprise balance sheet management. The successful candidate will contribute to recurring client delivery while helping improve the models, reporting and technology behind it.
What the ALM and Optimization Risk Analyst will do:
- Prepare, validate and reconcile asset portfolios, liabilities, and market data
- Run ALM models, scenario tests and established optimization processes; investigate and explain results
- Prepare client reports, risk dashboards, attribution analysis and supporting documentation
- Support portfolio rebalancing, hedging analysis, derivatives monitoring and collateral monitoring
- Coordinate routine client information requests and delivery follow-ups
- Improve reporting, data visualization, controls and analytical workflows
- Contribute to automation, programming and responsible use of AI
- Test enhancements to Nexus’ analytical tools and help maintain clear, reusable documentation
The successful candidate will receive training and technical guidance, with increasing ownership as the candidate develops their understanding of our clients, models and processes.
What we are looking for:
- ASA/ACIA or progress toward an actuarial designation, or a strong quantitative background in a related discipline
- Interest in ALM, fixed income, derivatives, hedging and financial risk
- Strong Excel skills and programming ability: Python, SQL, VBA or comparable experience would be valuable
- Careful attention to data quality, reconciliations and analytical accuracy
- Curiosity about the results, initiative in improving processes and judgment about when to seek guidance
- Clear communication, strong organization and reliable follow-through
- Experience with insurance, capital reporting, investment analytics or financial modelling would be an asset
